I can relate to her worry. I had three miscarriages before I was pregnant with my older daughter. After the second miscarriage I had myself pretty convinced I wouldn't be able to have kids. 🙁

Obviously I was wrong.

It's hard, though. I had a completely irrational obsession with getting, or really just staying, pregnant. So I understand that worry - even if people are telling you things will be fine.

I am so sorry to hear that, but I am so glad to see it worked out for you, your kids are beautiful!

I am just glad to hear that there is no unwritten rule that having children during residency or even medical school is an absolute no no.

Ok, really need a nap. I feel like a walking zombie. How pathetic. Today was a volunteer day and I am emotionally and physically zapped. Not to mention, I have veggie burger at lunch that tasted awesome, but didn't do such great things to my insides.

I will talk to you guys later.

Beary, sorry I didn't email. Hope you are having a fabulous day...well other than the whole 1,2, autopsy thing. Please let me know how things are going.

Have a good nap. How was your volunteering?

I am very tired as well. Actually I just decided to bag the rest of the day and call it quits. I just can't do it anymore. Though it will just make tomorrow suck worse. Oh well.

how did you giys survive the weeks or days leading up to getting your MCAT score?
alcohol .... lots and lots of alcohol

(kidding)

I kept myself busy around the house - lots of cleaning, I shampooed all the carpets. I did a lot of reading too.

🙁 beary i wish you strength tomorrow

Thanks Nikki. Tomorrow, I already have lined up in my little pile the gigantic face/neck from hell, a colon, and a big melanoma resection with lymph nodes. Oh, and the standard gallbladders, GIs, derms, etc. that I am just leaving tonight.

but i want to know and the sooner i know what i got the better
i'm the same way but this whole process teaches you to be a little patient. you have to wait for mcat scores, secondaries, interviews, admission decisions, step 1 scores, etc.... its all waiting, sucks. just try to keep your mind off the test when your done with it, there will be nothing you can do to change your score at that point so just relax. that simple thought kept me from going insane waiting for test scores.

and i've been meaning to ask whats the first yr of med school like? I've been told the first 2 yrs are the most difficult how true is this?

hows the rotation A-man?

hey nova, thanks for asking. today i was on afternoon clinic so i was done at 5PM. clinic was good, nothing crazy. much more laid back than L&D for sure. i like OB so far, i havent done the GYN part of the rotation yet but its nice how the OB's get to see patients in clinic like a regular doctor and still spend time in the OR doing procedures. very cool.

we had a nasty rainstorm today and it make my usual 45 minute commute home 90 minutes. 😡 i get the keys to my new on campus apartment tomorrow so i'm just sooooo happy i wont have to keep making this drive back and forth everyday.

the nice thing about 3rd year is that you really are working in the hospital everyday seeing patients, writing notes, and spending time with interns/residents/attendings. i like that aspect a lot more than the first 2 years when you're just sitting in classes for the most part. its easier in that you dont have to study for exams every 2 weeks or whatever and only have a few assignments throughout and a couple of exams at the end of 6 weeks but its harder in terms of time and responsibility. during the first 2 years at my school for example the usual schedule always ranges from something like 9AM-12PM or 9AM-4PM. On OB/Gyn when I was on labor and delivery i was getting to the hospital everyday at 545AM and leaving at 7PM. now on clinics i still show up at 545 but i get to leave at 5 at the latest. even on peds, when i was on the wards stuff started at 615AM. even though i'm not a morning person at all though i'm enjoying this year better because its more fun to see REAL patients with congestive heart failure, or placenta previa, or whatever instead of just reading about them which is what we do for most of the first 2 years. its definitely more fun, i just wish the hours were better and then it would be perfect.

Well, I applied to one. 😛

And if I don't get in EDP, I'll apply to a grand total of two more.

Feel better? 😉
I'm applying to a total of one ... maybe the MD school but hopefully just DO. If I don't get in after 2 tries then I'm waiting until hubby is done with residency.

That's a good way to put it, thanks for your input 🙂

My girlfriend has a sort of paranioa about having children. Her mother had trouble getting pregnant with her younger sister and she is absolutely convinced that if she waits too long the same will happen to her. Kids are basically her life (she wants to be a pediatrician, surprise surprise) and it would devastate her if she couldn't. I keep telling her it's all in her head and her doctor says she has no reason to worry right now, but she talks about it all the time.
I can relate to your gf about the miscarriage too. My mom had a few too before she had the 3 of us ... 😀

yeah it's from ek. great books for cramming
only a pre-med or med student that has been studying for 2 months say that they are "cramming". 😍

"the mcat you can take in your sleep, the LSAT you have to study for months and months." - Something something law student

Nikki's response: "say it to my face, bitch!" I still LMFAO when i think of that.
