University of Michigan. Hahaha.

This month I'm at the VA. Either way a public hospital.
i've been hearing from some friends that they are only gonna apply to privates since the work load is apparently less. what do you think beary? i'm in love with someplace someplace and may just end up being a lifer but i dont know, its a public hospital.

awesome nova, thanks. i'm actually visiting with family now. i'm addicted to my 2 year old nephew. 😀
awwww

they're so cute when they're so young. my friend's kid is about 20 months now, and she started something new. If mommy or daddy go into a room and don't close the door all the way, she will stand outside of it, knock, and then open it herself without waiting for an answer. (that's the next thing to work on!)

beary - you have to go in tomorrow? 🙁 How are things?

Yeah, I do. 🙁 I am truly getting worked to death.

Things were better today because I was the only person there so didn't have anybody yelling at me. 🙄

It totally depends what your goals are. Generally, the work load is less at private hospitals because they have better ancillary staff. However, I would argue that generally you would get to see less stuff since really complicated things are sent to big tertiary academic medical centers. (There are exceptions to this obviously, like Harvard is a private place, but you know what I mean).

I want to go into academics and do lots of research so I only applied to big academic medical centers. And I think I will end up getting great training, but am unquestionably being scutted to death and doing things a monkey could do. Also, if you are considering doing a fellowship, public/academic medical centers tend to be more favorably looked upon than private places. But if your goals are solely to go into private community practice right after residency, then a private hospital would be fine.

Also - a friendly word of caution - don't set your heart on anything during the match. You know what happened to me at Iowa. That was the worst thing that has ever happened to me in my professional life. So apply widely and don't set your heart on any one place. 😍

I am such an idiot. I did a load of laundry and put it in the dryer. Was playing WoW, and kept wondering why it wasn't done. I never started the dryer. 😳

Some idiot in WoW came up and asked me for my help, and I was helping him, and then he spent the whole time making fun of my pet. 😡

Oh, I know exactly what you mean. Everybody told me how important it is for an academic career to go to a different place for residency, but I still wanted to stay at Iowa, almost solely for personal reasons. Honestly, in a lot of ways it would have been a lot easier had I stayed. I love my new house here, but am totally lacking a "support system" (I hate that term, but it is important I think, especially during residency). And I have almost no time to put the effort into building relationships. So it's a catch-22.

beary--your pet is totally cute--and that game looks way too addicting

That game is VERY addicting.

I think my pet is cute too. 😍

And I think my character isn't too bad looking herself. 😉

Why are all my pictures so big? That is a 193 K image, and then I resized it to 50%, but it's gynormous. I would post more pictures if I could get them to look normal.

oxeye!!! how are you? is the fire out?
I haven't checked the news recently, but I can't see it or really even smell it anymore. 🙂

The smoke yesterday was awful. The baby and I were both coughing just walking from the car to the house.

 😉 Its all good. What did you decide on doing?

Some people on SDN really annoy me. *sigh* They just have to have their hands in everything. And other people don't really think before they post.

 I agree. In my case though, sometimes I don't read things all the way before I respond.

I found a friend who wants to go to AC so I think tomrrow we might do that. I'm only taking $100 though, I can't afford to go broke right now.
