The post-doc that I worked with last summer was from Belfast (he graduated from Queen's). How is it there? I am thinking about taking a trip to Ireland next summer.
Don't go during July or August. July is marching season and August is a big Catholic holiday. Other than that, it's fine. You won't be staying in the really staunchly paramilitary neighborhoods and if you really want to see them, just don't go at night.

The rest of the north is fine. The areas that are bad are not touristy areas anyway.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Dublin. Fantastic city, atmosphere, beer, everything.

The west coast is a must-see. Breath-taking!! Donnegal is one of my favorite places, but COLD!!

Nah. 😉

Have you gotten your secondary yet? Or do I need to call again? 😡
I got an e-mail a couple weeks ago. The secondary should be out the middle of this month - maybe next week?

No need to call. 😉 You're still awesome, though.

Hey you - how was clinic today?
it was great. i totally love one of the residents that was there today, she was on during my call night. it was sooooo sweet, being morning OR afternoon i was assigned the morning shift today so I WAS DONE WITH OB/GYN AT 1215. yes that is correct, 1215. 😱 😍

tomorrow i have afternoon clinic which i think is something like 1-5 so i have the morning off between about 930 and 1. not as good as today but still, I LOVE CLINIC WEEKS... if only for the time. it just feels like such a nice break after the hours on L&D. i'll have this clinic all week and then Gyn clinic next week.

Oh that sounds so nice A. You'll get a lot of time to yourself this week. 🙂 That'll be nice.

Do you get to do much during the clinic weeks? Or do you mostly just watch?

depends on the rotation, on peds clinic I use to interview the parents and do the PE on the kids, fill out the forms and then present directly to the attending. then the attending would go in and tie up any loose ends and verify my PE findings. i was totally acting like a resident.

on OB/Gyn clinic, I pretty much just measure the belly to make sure the fundal height matches where the pregnancy should be at whatever stage it is. then i use the doppler to get the fetal heart tones so I pretty much just put gel on the bellies and start looking for the fetal heart. once you know that the baby should be at the level of the umbilicus at 20 weeks, its cake. for example, if you know the pregnancy is 25 weeks along then you just apply the gel a couple of inches above the umbilicus and you find the fetal heart beat right away. there were no paps today or STD screenings but if there would have been i would have been the one to do the speculum exam. i still have to get to the hospital at 540/545 to see a patient or 2 and write them up before rounds but its nice to go to clinic afterwards and get done early. its so much more relaxed than L&D.

ok guys, i'm gonna go. i got home and slept for like 4 hours. 😱 i'm catching up on soooooooo much sleep from last week. now i can read for a few hours though without feeling tired! ttyl guys!

*waves to TypeA* I got a book to look over for MCAT while I'm home. So now I have to start reading from it. Blah.

I want to take either spanish or sign language this fall. I don't have the time for the class though!!

Take ASL. A lot more unusual. I took both. 😍 ASL

I think I might just do that. I want to take meteorology but I know I want to do ASL. I knew basic sign language that I learned in jr high as I had friends who were deaf (in my music class - go figure). If I don't start it this year, I'll start it next year. 😀

exactly. I'm used to seeing them in trees, but not COVERING the trees and everything else around them. yick!

(oh and I grew up calling them "tent caterpillars". different names in different areas?)
