Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeere's the thread!

Not sure what the Random thread is all about? Well, here's the answer to all your questions.

It's basically a restaurant. That serves breaststicks. And lots of cute fruit and veggies. And is patronized by a HO. And Tucker Carlson. Vin Diesel, too. Lots of race car drivers eat here, as well. We're very well respected by the Amish... one girl in particular is here almost all the time.

The food is great if you're low on iron. It's not on the menu, but you can ask about the special secret garlic cure home recipe. One of the hostesses often makes weather predictions, but she's not always around. I think she has another job with the government. Or a government. Something like that. One of the other hostesses says "Bitch, please," a lot, but she's joking... don't take it personally.

Forget anything you've heard about the girl who died here from arsenic poisoning. That was a long time ago, and she's still alive, anyway... just busy so she doesn't come in as much. Besides, a little arsenic adds a lot of flavor to just about any dish.

Pretty flowers by the entrance, hey? Lilis, they are. Beautiful. And the music is totally hopping... we have our very own DJ. Looks a little like Brad Pitt.

I guess that's pretty much all you need to know. I'm usually in the corner booth over there drinking a nice glass of wine. You're welcome to join me, anytime. We're open 24/7.

Congratulations to everyone who made Part 4 such a kickass thread!!!

That sucks 🙁 Pa will probably get rain from that too

I take my words back, it's still South of us, but moving NW so we will probably get more rain.

I forgot to mention, but it turned out about that plane crash in KY: the co-pilot was in command on this flight (they do that to give more experience). Imagine that, the only survivor is the one at fault. I couldn't even begin to think of what that would be like to have on your shoulders for the rest of your life.

How is everyone on this lovely evening?

Hey Fe!! It is definitely a lovely evening in terms of weather. You can tell that fall is approaching here. Every day has been highs in the 70s, and today it was sunny. 😀 I should get out of here in an hour or two.

Yeah. I have been thinking a lot about that too.

Also, did you see that the pilots initially boarded and powered up the wrong plane?

Ok so this is going to sound a bit toolish but just hear me out. I was thinking about maybe taking a class this year before I start med school next year; I am considering some kind of anatomy class. I have a couple of reasons why I was thinking about doing this:

1) This is the first break from school that i've ever had. I have always been pretty academically motivated, and I am starting to feel a little antsy about doing nothing for an entire year (besides work)

2) I have no real biology background except for what was covered on the MCAT, cell biology, and a few "fill in the gaps" type lectures from Bioengineering (in which there wasn't much bio)

3) I have never taken anatomy and my girlfriend says that she wishes she would have been exposed to anatomy at some point (she is MS1 right now taking Anatomy)

Maybe buying a clinically-related anatomy book would suffice? I was just wondering what you guys thought about this. Is this not a bad idea, or completely stupid?

I'm glad your weather is good. 🙂 Ours is sucky here right now 👎

i just had a serious "DUH!" moment paging through a health care economics book... now I realize why they make getting in to med school so competitive... the less supply, the more demand, the better their salaries 👍 now, to get rid of the FMG's :meanie:

I heard about some pilots starting up the wrong plane, but I thought that was a completely different story. It was the same people?! Wow, what the heck was going on in their heads that day...

If you think you'd find the class interesting and what to use your time, I think it would be a good choice. You'd have to be careful I guess when it comes to where you look for jobs because you might have to move out of town.

I'll probably be working around here, and there are a few colleges around here. I think I might just buy a book or something, a class might be overkill. I don't know just yet

You could always take it as a pass/fail option if you just want to enjoy it for what it is.

 I would give away half my salary if someone else would do these colons. 😉

Speakings of colons, I was just doing colon biopsies from a guy who has cancer all over his flippin' colon. That guy's getting his colon out for sure and it's going to be a bitch to gross. SO NOT IT!!! 😎 👍

Hi! That is totally not toolish. I admire your motivation.

My personal bias is that not too much in undergrad prepares you for medical school. I was a biochem major, and honestly everything I knew whizzed by in the first few weeks. So I think an anatomy class is unlikely to really help you much in med school. If it will be something you enjoy, by all means go for it - it certainly won't hurt! But I wouldn't work too hard either. You will be studying plenty hard for the next few years. 😉

i hate economics... this cost/benefit analysis table of going through med school puts things in to such a dry context

why don't you think an anatomy class will help for med school?

Yeah. It will be interesting to find out more about their lives - I know they are really heavily looking into that right now in the investigation. I guess they could have been impaired (i.e. drugs/alcohol), distracted, personal problems, even just tired. Who knows. But incredibly sad.

It seems like having two pilots (plus air traffic controller, who was doing other things) would really prevent this type of stuff since they are unlikely to BOTH be totally out of it at the same time.

Well, I think it would help a little, but not all that much. Not just anatomy, I would say the same thing about a cell bio, biochem, etc. class. I generally don't think people should take extra classes SOLELY for the purpose of preparing them for med school because I just don't think it makes that much of a difference. Med school classes are just very different.

I hear some are trying to blame the tower because only one guy was on duty (supposed to be two).

Another thing is, these pilots could've been on the same shift. They might've had the last flight in the previous night (midnight) and then the first one out (5:30AM), which is still the same shift. Very tired and this has caused problems in the past.

I believe this same airport had a previous incident with was nearly identical. Another plane was on the wrong runway, but both the ATC and pilots thought it was the correct one. Then at ATC noticed and they braked in time, pretty scary...

thanks beary--it's not very serious--it just looks completely gross--ewwwww

I just had out the bone saw. Would you like me to take a small section of bone and soft tissue? :meanie:

I hope you feel better... if it is all discolored and swollen, it probably is a pretty serious sprain. 🙁 Take some ibuprofen in addition to the RICE.

I just read that at the beginning of the runways the two look nearly identical because there is a small bump in the longer one so that you can't see the end or really tell how long it is.

beary that seriously just made me sick to my stomach. it's not bruised and it happened like 3 or 4 hours ago--just swollen on the side. well if it starts getting worse i'll go to the dr. tomorrow. what about tylenol dr. beary?

hey sweetie, tylenol will just make it hurt less but its not anti-inflammatory. you need something like ibuprofen like beary suggested. hope you feel better. 😍

😛 to anyone that says that was medical advice on sdn, i was just talking about the mcat, thats all. *whistles* man, verbal's a bitch. :meanie:

i just met up with one of my friends this past weekend who is a fourth year and he had a chance to do a few amputations during his surgery rotations... I guess the bonesaw makes a barbecue smell that they need to get rid of, so all the surgeons don't get hungry during surgery :meanie:

The MCAT in the random non-MCAT thread? Uh oh...policia! Policia!

Hmmm.... I very much hate the bone saw. It smells disgusting to me, but not even remotely like barbeque. :barf:

Though nothing is worse than poo. Given the fact that I just turned Nikki's stomach, I will leave out my poo story for the day. Suffice to say I got out the plastic arm guards, full face shield, and an N95 respirator.

maybe i just need some grey goose. i'm off to study some more--ttyl peeps

Yes, that is a very effective painkiller. 😉 I am drinking a sprite right now and was just thinking how much better it would be with a splash of grey goose in it.

It always makes me feel better when I'm sick from my heart. Practically the only thing.

Thanks 🙂 Yea, I think I might just do some self exploration and bag the class idea. I have heard that nothing can really compare to medical school anyway (in terms of anatomy)

If someone did that to my little girl, I might do something worse than kill him (you can use your imagination) :meanie:

My guess would be chinese torture? Or maybe you worked an F14 into this situation? 😕

Edit: Just spoke to a former F4 Phantom pilot. $6,000 an hour to operate. 😱
