Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeere's the thread!

Not sure what the Random thread is all about? Well, here's the answer to all your questions.

It's basically a restaurant. That serves breaststicks. And lots of cute fruit and veggies. And is patronized by a HO. And Tucker Carlson. Vin Diesel, too. Lots of race car drivers eat here, as well. We're very well respected by the Amish... one girl in particular is here almost all the time.

The food is great if you're low on iron. It's not on the menu, but you can ask about the special secret garlic cure home recipe. One of the hostesses often makes weather predictions, but she's not always around. I think she has another job with the government. Or a government. Something like that. One of the other hostesses says "Bitch, please," a lot, but she's joking... don't take it personally.

Forget anything you've heard about the girl who died here from arsenic poisoning. That was a long time ago, and she's still alive, anyway... just busy so she doesn't come in as much. Besides, a little arsenic adds a lot of flavor to just about any dish.

Pretty flowers by the entrance, hey? Lilis, they are. Beautiful. And the music is totally hopping... we have our very own DJ. Looks a little like Brad Pitt.

I guess that's pretty much all you need to know. I'm usually in the corner booth over there drinking a nice glass of wine. You're welcome to join me, anytime. We're open 24/7.

Congratulations to everyone who made Part 4 such a kickass thread!!!

And thank you to the ever generous, intelligent, lovely, and kind Nichole, who let me start the thread even though she won the last one. 🙂

check out my avatar, i'm in ernesto's cone so school got cancelled today and tomorrow. we should start feeling it in a few hours.

Do you guys have to make that up? I mean the class time.

Okay really silly question.....during hurricanes and such, do residents still have to go to work?

DO you guys have to make that up?

maybe if i were in the first 2 years but in my ob/gyn clerkship, no. i just lost 2 days of GYN ONCOLOGY experience.... which actually isnt a bad thing since it is the worst part of the rotation at my school. the attendings are just soo sooo sooooo serious and constantly pimping students with crazy questions plus the patients are dying from ovarian cancer, etc... its depressing.

yes, in fact.... if a resident is on shift as the hurricane approaches and hits us they CANNOT LEAVE THE HOSPITAL. there will always be docs for our patients, if the storm is so bad that the next shift of residents and staff cant make it into the hospital then the staff that is currently working just stays working.

students are excused because we arent "critical" to patient care. as juniors and seniors if we wanted to be there we could but its not required.

So during clerkship it's just pure clinical hours? No actual classes involved?

should i include the various theories of genesiseven though the only one i am referring to is the response to vascular injury theory

we have lecture day every thursday from 830am-4/5pm. plus presentations to make to the residents throughout the rotation, plus having to study for the shelf and oral exams. its a lot but its more fun, this is why we all came to med school you know?

Good news! The storm has started to pick up speed, its tropical winds only extend 85miles (its shrunk from well over 100) and the pressure has been steady.

Hit landfall tonight. Rain this afternoon.

ok, so i'm staying in my apt. if my windows blow out, i blame forecaster mushy.

rad i am taking a 2 yr course in avd bio, chem , phys, math and communication studies. This is my 2nd and final yr, sept net yr hopeflly will be med school

oh and they are keeping school close tomorrow mushling. no take backs!

sweet, so i will take your advice and not leave my 17th floor apt. is that crazy or would you concur its only a storm? if i must evacuate would you endorse an evacuation to Ohio? :meanie:
Well right now winds of 45mph, can your windows take that? Maybe gusts of up to hurricane force? 😛

And yes, I fully endorse an evacuation to Ohio! 👍

you will tease yourself? damn, where is jlw when we need her.
😛 whenever i hit quick reply it does that sometimes (quotes the reply) but othertimes not 😕

And we all know how MUCH you love OB 😛 I'm shocked you didn't want to stay.

ALthough I think it would be cool as so many women are going to end up in the OB with the pressure drop

you multiquoted me, that hurts. 🙁

stop your whining, its easier that way for me. I try to multiquote on a page.

Repeat: I am not a postwhore, I am a post-companion (molly will appreciate this)

Rinse then REPEAT! I am not a postwhore, I am a post-companion
Ok, really have ot shower and get out of here in the next 20 mins. Don't think i'm going to make it though ... *sigh*

I'll be back after my ochem lab this afternoon!

i actually do like OB/Gyn a lot mush, its just that i need to take advantage of this time to study for my exams next week. its hard to study in this rotation with all the long hours, we get there BEFORE the day shift residents and leave with them at night. on top of that we have to read and study, its crazy.

I still can't believe you don't have to take the MCAT, though....lucky!

🙄

Yeah clerskips sounds more fun than the 1st 2 yrs! Can't wait!!!!

the 1st 2 years are just like a continuation of undergrad. you even have classes on sensitivity, etc... where you have to write papers on how a certain book made you feel for example. totally like undergrad except much more fast paced. the material itself though isnt that hard, there is just sooooooooo much of it that has to be covered in very little time. thats what makes it hard.

and you Rad?

I've been done with school.......just went back to school last year to repeat a few classes for MCAT 'cause it's been a while since I've taken those classes. I kinda miss school though (yes geek at heart!)

The dog is back!

ok i'm outtie for REALZ now.

*poof*

i like school but i hate when there are days and we have no actual classes, its a waste of my time so when i kow its going to be like that i stay home and catch up on studying

i love bio and chem, i m not too fond of physics although some aspects of the course are nice. i m taking math because its nice to have and comm is compulsory

According to the response to vascular injury theory, injury to the endothelium by local disturbances of blood flow an angulated or branched points, along with systemic risk factors ( eg hyperglycemia, dyslipidemia, cigarette smoking, possibly infection) leads to a series of events that culminate in the development of atherosclerotic plaque.

Endothelial damage occurs in many clinical settings and can be demonstrated in individuals with dyslipidemia, hypertension, advanced age, nicotine exposure, and products of infective organisms (ie Chlamydia pneumoniae). However endothelial damage may be reversed if the underlying cause is attenuated. Endothelial damage may result in changes that are localized or generalized and transient or persistent, as follows:
· Increased permeability to lipoproteins
· Decreased nitric oxide production
· Increased leukocyte migration and adhesion
· Prothrombotic dominance
· Vascular growth stimulation
· Vasoactive substance release

Endothelial dysfunction is the initial step that allows diffusion of lipids and inflammatory cells (ie monocytes, T lymphocytes) into the endothelial and sub-endothelial spaces. Secretion of cytokines and growth factors promotes intimal migration, SMC proliferation, and accumulation of collagen matrix, monocytes and other white blood cells forming an atheroma. More advanced athromas may rupture, leading to thrombosis and the development of ACS and AMI. Risk factor modification through therapeutic lifestyle changes ( TLC), reduction of low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) levels, and smoking cessation rapidly improves endothelial function.

Bubye all!!!! Till we see each other in virtual world again! 😀

not quite because we are so accustomed to the climate and the landscape .. it isnt like its portrayed in POTc though its quite different
