http://forums.drslounge.com/showpost.php?p=3057106&postcount=16

ok, so.. i'm gonna stop flip-flopping.... which should it be?

the current homer avatar, the old dr.hibbert kidney avatar, the hurricane wilma avatar, the bart xray avatar, the really old ER avatar.... jeebus! i do change it a lot 😳

you guys choose, i'm in med school so my brain burned out long ago

i kind of liked the hurricane wilma avatar too since I am a miami hurricane 😎 i just figured it was time to take it down though since i survived the flintstone hurricane

arsenic: if your planning on going into nephrology i guess the dr. hibbert one, otherwise definitely the bart one rocks!

i think they are just lazy and want to tag along in the buggy :meanie:

maybe but those people wake up at like 4 in the morning to build houses so i dont think thats it. the horse and buggy is what...... 10th century tech? how long has the bicycle been around? since the 18th or 19th centuries? hell, i dont expect to see amish riding bikes for another 800 years.

thanks guys, guju said she likes the homer one too so i guess i'll keep this one and then switch to bart when i get bored of homer 😀

yes, you can never go wrong with homer, i dont think theres another entertainment figure that so accurately represents the laziness, tactlessness, and overall apathy that homer glamorously depicts. 😉

i'll be waking up with the amish tomorrow....i have this mysterious new thing i do--instead of hitting the snooze button i turn my alarm clock off. my subconsious is making me late for class. good night 😴

hey arsenic, why did you stop your blog? i saw it for the first time right now and the last entry is from sep 16th..

haha. u can write a long sappy melodrama about your hurricane experience and how you bravely rescued the cute blonde neighbor from the falling trees, and how she fell head over heels for u after u started using medical terminology to describe her injuries.... 😉

Dont forget the part about how I ran out into the winds and flying roof tiles to save her.

"It hurts where exactly? OK... just relax, I need to palpate your abdomen. A dull pain in the right upper quadrant is usually visceral. Ok, now take a deep breath, I need to palpate and percuss your liver." 😎

Neitherhasmine.I I needto keep it up dated more often. I keep two now, my premed and my personal. I'm thinking of starting one for my friends to keep regularly updated in my life. Alot of people use live journal, but I also have blogger and xanga. I can'tdecide which oneto use!

TRICK OR TREAT everyone. HAPPY HALOWEEN!!!!!!!!

Any muslims on here??? Cuz happy ramadan to the muslim people on here if there are any. Our school Muslim student association and sisters united muslim association put together a fast-a-thon for ramadan today, where they got people to donate money and fast for a day to raise money towards muslim awareness or something of that nature. I'm not sure what the money goes towards. but they feed you in the evening for doing it. So they had chinese food, cake, and candy. yum yum. 😉 😛

I saw that something like that is going on at my school but not until tomorrow. Muslims have it easier here than in FL. There are fewer daylight hours. 😛 I wonder if people pig out just after dusk. That has to be hard not to eat all day. I'd get a headache.

not eat all day?!?! if i dont eat every 2 hrs or so, my stomach goes crazy and starts growling and rumbling, i have such a weird digestive system, i think my fast metabolism has something to do with it.

even writing this is making me hungry, haha

And yet you are soooooooo skinny judging from your old facebook pic!!!!!!! 😉 😉

If only I could eat a lot and never gain weight. As if!!1 😛 😉

Muslim fasting is a bit different from Jain fasting, in that it entails eating after the sun goes down. You can't eat during sunlight. But when the sun goes down you are allowed to eat.

In the Jain holiday where they fast, you are not allowed to eat anything at all for like over a week. I know someone who fasted aka starved themselves completely for 30 days.

im sorry, but, regardless of your personal beliefs, starving for 30 days is just stupid, not to mention life-threatening. im not entirely sure, but i read somewhere that the longest that a human has lasted without food was around 2 wks, so i dont even see how its feasible to go for a month without food. for water, its even less, within a few days you would be dead.

i learned somewhere the longest we can go without food is probably about 2 months, depending on the individual's fat stores. protein would be the next to go.

without water you'd die in about 3-4 days, independant of your size.

ok, i was wrong then 😳 sorry. but wouldnt the muscles start to atrophy within 1 or 2 wks of non-usage? also, i guess it would also depend on the amount of glucose storage and liver size of the individual. i really have no idea though, its been a few yrs since i took biochem, kinda forgot about gluconeogenesis and all that 😛

arsenic, i just realized something: your little light thingy on the lower left of your posts is never green to show whether you are online or not, so you are always hidden, you sneaky mod you, just like a ninja, can slip in and out whenever you want without anyone noticing...

i'd expect there to be some atrophy but i just dont know how soon until it would start.

you're right about the glucose. i think the order is that the body will eat up its glucose stores first, then fat, then protein. the glucose/glycogen stores really dont last very long though, you only have a couple of days of glucose reserve. thats why part of the induction phase of the atkin's diet is to cut out all carbs at the beginning, to force your body to drain your glycogen reserves.

speaking of diets.... the doctor who came up with the "South Beach Diet" is going to be lecturing us this Thursday. lucky, rich bastard.

yeah, i sneak in and out of sdn without being listed at the bottom of the forums.

mods have the ability to see all users who are online, even if they are in "invisible mode". we just see them with an asterisk next to their names, thats why banana can see me.

Dr.Agatston will be giving us a lecture on Thursday and then he'll be on the today show or one of those other morning shows on Friday

i've gained like 5 pounds since starting med school but i think part of that is all the coffee i'm drinking now 😳

most people in my class are fit and most look the same now as they did when we started
