In undergrad. I have, occasional, short phases where I misspell words that I use on a daily basis. It's been happening again for the past week and it is driving me nuts.

These phases will typically last 1-3 weeks and occur once/twice a year. It isn't triggered by anything that I know of and ends up going away on its own. My diet and sleep are great, too.

Anyone else had this happen to them? It's really embarrassing for me to stop taking notes to decide what the correct spelling for a word is.

Maybe too much autocorrect? 😛 JK.

This sounds like one of the excuses I get when kids are trying to get me to prescribe them Adderall

That's unfortunate and a little offensive, but I'll pass on irreversible brain damage. I don't see how misspelling words a couple of weeks out of the year warrants a stimulant prescription, anyway.

To be perfectly honest, how @WingedOx read your post is exactly how I did as well.

Fair enough, my apologies. I did not mean to covey that kind of message. I was just curious to see if anyone has experienced the same thing.

Soooooo did you just spell "convey" wrong on purpose to try to prove your point or.......?

I'm not that clever, haha! English is not my first language, anyway. Wish it were that simple to figure out, but I practically grew up in the US.

English is my first and only language and I'm typically excellent at spelling, but there are some days when words look weird, or I have to catch myself over and over, or I confuse things like 4's and h's. I've always wondered about this too! It's mild enough that I can shrug it off though.

That's a pretty good description of how I feel in these phases. Words end up looking awkward/weird, or I apply direct sound spelling like the use of "-shun" instead of "-tion" . I don't have any issues with mixing up letters and numbers, though. I'm sure it happens to a decent number of people.

Hit me up next week when your poop is a weird color and you want to know if anyone else experienced that as well.

OP, you sound like you're describing a "brain" fart. I wouldn't read too deep into it - though as was mentioned before this ain't the best place for medical advice.

It's probably nothing, but if you honestly believe there's a problem and you notice it worsening, you should make an appointment with a school counselor who can screen you for any symptoms of cognitive impairment. There's such a variety of possibilities to explain what you're going through - dyslexia, brain tumor, anxiety, etc. If it is something, it's probably small and can be either corrected or accommodated, but you need to get it checked if you expect to handle it.

It's probably Subsyndromal Delirium. Remember @caffeinemia, when you hear hoofbeats, look for horses, not zebras.
The obvious culprits are any combination of a Top Ramen diet, partying all night, and exercise limited to "reaching for the remote".

In all seriousness, you seem moderately concerned so please ASK YOUR GP.
