Try Finn, Washbucket!!! So silky and crimpy and easy to spin.

Jacob sheep are lovely and I am totally fascinated by the breed's history and trying to figure out the origins of the breed. I don't believe that they originated in the Middle East. I think they came from Scandinavia (horns seem to indicate this- and there are a few Nordic short-tailed breeds that are or can be polycerates) and then I believe they may have taken some time in Spain. Probably they were still dual-coated at this time; you can see the similarities in horn structure in the Navajo Churro sheep today. Then I know they were in England the past couple of centuries, where they likely had their fleece modified into something closer to down-type.

Of course, this is based purely on morphology and nothing with genetics...

This is what happens when I'm doing FEC on sheep samples...I think about stuff like that. 😉

Interesting. Do you know if there are genetics being done on sheep breed origins (I figure you'd be the person on here who would!)?

I'll see if I can get hold of some Finn. I got some Jacob because there's a farm really close to here that raises them and they had an open house during lambing. One of the mama sheep tried to butt me when I petted her babies  The other mamas were nice though. They had some very lovely undyed roving that was an incomplete blend of the black and white wool, so the resulting yarn had black and white and grey spirals.

Also try searching for anagram. 🙂
I love Google Easter eggs.

So, an exciting thing about deciding to take the morning shift this week is that I am on the bus at 3:30AM, then on another bus at around 4:30AM. Well, this is the perfect opportunity to see the still drunk people in action on their way to attempt to get home.

So this morning two young kids get onto the bus (they had to be around 17-19) and both are drunk, the one kid pays the price for a ticket then sits down (he has an expression on his face like he could be sick at any minute, thankfully that never happened). The second kid goes to pay for his ticket and tries to put his keys into the coin slot.. the bus driver patiently tells him, "no, you need to get money out of your pocket, don't put your keys in there you need those to get in your house." The kid looks confused but finally reaches into his pocket and pulls out some money, but it isn't enough and the bus driver tells him how much more he needs, so the kid reaches into his other pocket and pulls out his keys and tries to pay with those again. The bus driver tells him, "no, other pocket, you need money not your keys." The kid reaches into the same pocket as his keys and tries to put his phone in there, then he starts looking at his phone and texting. The bus driver tells him he needs to finish paying and to put the phone away. But the kid is so damn confused, he has no idea what is going on, finally he says, "I don't think I have any" and then leaves the bus.

anyone like a particular brand of waterless shampoo? i think i'm gonna pick some up for RAVS just to have on hand...

YES. Klorane dry shampoo (in the aerosol can) is amazing. You can go like 5 days with that stuff, the smell isn't overpowering, and it just really does exactly what it's supposed to. It's amazing and I sing its praises to anyone that asks about dry shampoo 😛 It is a little pricey which is the only downside but I think it's worth it. Last time I ran out of it I didn't have a lot of money to spend so I got some Tresemme stuff instead. It works, sort of. It's also really purfume-y which I hate. On a scale of 1-10 I'd give it a 4 and I'd give the Klorane stuff a 10. 🙂

Man oh man. Dry shampoo freaks me out. I'm totally scared to try it lol

I avoided it for a while too. Try the klorane brand stuff though... it will change your life. 😀

I have pretty greasy hair. Does it work well for that? I mean, I wash my hair everyday unless I can put it in a bun and even then I can only skip one day because I'm a big ol' grease ball.

Yes! I bet you could go 2 or 3 days between washing your hair. It's also nice to use at the end of a long day, if you want to go out at night and your hair is looking a little less than clean. Just a few spritzes and it looks like it did at 8am, instead of 8pm.

Does it work for getting cow ****e out of your hair?? 😛

I have the same issue, Abney, my hair is a grease pit if I skip a day washing it, I rarely ever skip a day washing my hair and if I do, it is because it is the weekend and I am at home and have no plans.

My hair used to be super greasy all the time. Like by the end of the day it would look awful. I tried not using any shampoo and that didn't really work for me. They say you go through a detox, which I did, but it never stopped. So instead I've switched to a detergent free shampoo. Now my hair does better when I only wash it every other day. I haven't tried dry shampoos though.

My hair seems to have a 5-day period going from "normal" to "mad scientist nerd fro bedhead." If I go two or three days without it's manageable. Usually by day four it goes into "unable to be seen in public" mode, no matter how much I wrestle with it.

thank you so much for your suggestions!!

i ended up going with the Dove brand because Klorane product locator couldn't find a store near my house selling it. I figured since you didn't really care for the tresume brand, maybe dove was the better (cheaper) option. i'll let ya know what i think! hopefully i wont really need this because we'll have showers available almost every day of this trip haha

Totally was going to recommend the chlorhex waterless shampoo that we use at my vet clinic, but I see you mean for people and not animals...

Let me know how you like it! I'm a Klorane devotee but it would be nice to have a cheaper back-up that actually works too.

so far i hate it haha. its weird, i dont think it works very well and its very fragrant. not a fan so hopefully i don't really need it next week haha

Ah, bummer. I can't stand stuff that is super perfume-y. I'd rather choose the scent I'll smell like thank you (by wearing actual perfume).

Forgot to post pics from last week! Won tickets to a major league baseball game. 7th row right behind home plate! 😱 It was awesome!

Just wanted to chime in and say just how much I despise the treseme dry shampoo. It smells like terrible hair spray and just makes your hair sticky. Garbage! 👎

Racing greyhound had his ears cut off/mutilated before being abandoned so the required tatoo on the ears was obliterated and the dog couldn't be traced back to its scumbag owners.

Hey Devyn, looking for a "new" dog.

Follow up on this story, 1 week later.
"Norman" is doing really well. Here he is playing with toys!

It is 2:30AM over here. I have been trying to finish Once Upon A Time, I think I am done for tonight. Only two episodes left for tomorrow. 😀

Nice! I'm up to episode 10. I'm hooked :meanie:

I was originally hoping to finish all of the five books that are out right now in A Song of Ice and Fire this summer, but I keep getting distracted from reading. I killed the first one in like a week and a half but have taken like a month for number two now. Oh well.

Two Giant moths that I found at work outside the barn! 😱

Aren't they?! I'm kind of proud of that last photo. So gorgeous. I wanted to take it home. 😛

Not sure if it was that same species moth, (but a real big one like it for sure) but caught a couple bug trapping once. A labmate needed a big bug collection for an ento class so others in the lab were helping her out by catching what we could when doing other field work.

Girl I was in the field with didn't keep one of them in the kill jar quite long enough and it was only knocked out when she put it in a whirl pak. Grabbed the pak the next morning and got a little freaked when the moth suddenly started flapping inside the bag  I felt bad that it was trapped in that bag all night still alive though.
