"Squirrels can get west nile" is a sentence that lives in my head forever because it was an exam question that I got wrong because I did not think it would be on a test.

Mine is the marginal cutaneous pouch of ears. I've had like, a dozen animals with injuries too it over the years and missing that on an anatomy exam means I write VERY SPECIFICALLY where the laceration is in my record lol.

Mine is the lateral head of the gastrocnemius. Spent probably way too long agonizing over it in my first anatomy exam. Had written as a note to myself “something deep to the gastrocnemius???” and was so mad to find out if I had just put the damn muscle name they would have given me partial credit.

I learned it as Henry's pocket but not even in school. I had to look it up because an owner's child asked me what it was called and therefore I was obligated to find out.

I have no recollection of ever learning what that was called, but I would like to report that I was handstripping my dog’s ears tonight and informed Henry that that was his pocket and it is definitely named after him.
 
Bcbs has been incessantly calling for months pry like 6mo+ and I have continually ignored them. Im so over it though so I finally answered after my tech told me what they wanted. So supposedly they want me to meet with an np to "make sure my needs are being met and go over my health" BUT its going to take 45 minutes. So I have a few thoughts about this

1) what could this person possibly tell me that my gp hasn't already addressed
2) what could we possibly talk about for 45 minutes...but like seriously...
3) what is the true purpose of this call because if its just gathering my health data not interested
4) feeling slightly bad because im going to fly through the medical stuff and then proceed to continue to complain about the broken human insurance world in regards to my knee, how they wasted my time and money by making me get an xray and an additional office visit and that they are not patient centered care since they wouldnt listen to my primary and have to preauth everything 🙄 so no you're not helping meet my needs when I truly needed it.
5) also please update your script when scheduling to give your caller some flexibility. You're calling a 30 year old who uses ai daily and went to school during the pandemic...I can use google/teams/zoom/*insert your choice of web based app* you don't have to hold my hand telling me step by step how to access my appointment.

Thank you for coming to my tedtalk. Also pls quit calling me I don't have time for your bs.🙃

I feel you, Mixy. I just found out tonight that my current employer health plan is being discontinued in 2026 so I have to change when open enrollment opens. And the 'new' options are...not awesome. Especially since I live in the middle of nowhere so in-network options are abysmal and essentially 90 mins away or more. Which means going out of network and paying a lot more to stay local or committing a half day to travel to appointments. Or I can choose a 'virtual-first' plan which seems silly since most things I go to the doctor for are annual exams and actual tests like a pap/BC implant that can't be done virtually...do I really want to have to have a virtual appointment so they can approve me seeing an in-person provider then do it all over again in person? I'm grateful to have health insurance at all in the current environment, but these are not great options.

I found this to be incredibly fishy. I kept getting calls from CVS saying I could have a dedicated nurse I could talk to about my health if I was having issues, etc. I chalked it up as CVS BS because seriously, **** CVS, but then they called my SPOUSE, who wasn't even on the same insurance plan at the time because we weren't married yet. I called BCBS pissed because the CVS recording kept saying they were calling on behalf of them. It is in fact a "benefit" of my insurance, but it's basically just a way to gather data on "how you're doing" instead of just what your doctor recommends.

They also somehow knew I had rheumatoid arthritis despite the fact that I've a) never told anyone at CVS that and b) have never once picked up a prescription for RA there. I think it's just another way to argue about covering treatments and such but maybe I'm being cynical.
 
Jayna I didn't even know virtual first was even a thing...Im not surprised but that's crazy to me. Like can you just get a standing order to have in-person stuff authorized especially procedures. Such a waste of time and devaluing the "exam" and their education imo. Like I've used telehealth once or twice but it was also during the pandemic when I couldnt really actually go into the dr...

Wild. I mean like seriously they're offering a $100 visa card for completing it so like why? I smell fish but im curious enough and though I know im not going to change anything Im happy to be a very squeaky wheel that regrets calling me.

I need to read more about it tomorrow at work. From what I’ve seen so far they become your PCP and you get free video visits and chats with your “team” which includes an NP who is your main contact, a physician, and a ‘health guide’. Then if needed they give you a “care pass” to go in person somewhere and it waives the copays. I could seek out in-person care myself under the plan but it covers less and has higher deductibles/out of pocket max if you do that without their little passes. I rarely go to the doctor but you never know what will happen. Rural healthcare is a joke anyway, so idk that there’s any good options.
 
It's good to know this about BCBS. My work is switching from United Healthcare to BCBS or Kaiser. On the one hand IHC has the worst approval rates for stuff (still arguing about my epidural between them and anesthesia from the Niece-Daughter's birth over a year ago). And I pay 603/month for the three of us.

If I go to BCBS, I get to keep my doc, who I like well enough and have been with since I was 17. Husband doesn't like her for peds for Lil Bats. But I don't like hearing this shenanigans about them. Kaiser is so vertically integrated, it's wild. But they also have the best acceptance rates of anyone too. Like 90%+.

Hard choices in a few weeks.

Despite the CVS thing, I have genuinely liked BCBS (having said that, I’ve also had the best and most expensive insurance plan offered my whole life). Their agents are friendly, helpful, and understanding, and I’ve had very little issue getting things covered. For reference, I needed some ingrown toenails fixed which usually aren’t covered under insurance, but was able to argue medical necessity and even got anesthesia for it covered. I paid $0 for that procedure. I have little experience with other insurance companies but have always had good experience with BCBS.

Overall I like bcbs I feel like they are like "least evil and pita" outside of normal insurance bs I honestly cant complain much. They did cover 2 heli rides to the tune of about 170k a piece
