Hello lovely Family Med folks!

I needed help on my rank list.

What I want from a program:
-solid training
-good common outpatient procedure training so I can do procedures in my primary care practice w/o referring out
-compassionate faculty with support and great environment to learn in (aka non-malignant program)
-good job prospects after residency to work at a community residency program or academic institution's FM residency program since I love teaching and would love to train/mentor students and residents

Programs thoughts and concerns in no particular order...

1. UC San Diego
- super kind faculty and residents
- concern: will I be better trained at any of the other programs given this is an opposed program

2. White Memorial in Los Angeles
- concerns: majority of patients are only Latino (though love this population, worry about patient diversity)
- new program director
- peds training given that the peds program at White closed down a couple years back
- training in an Adventist health hospital given my passion for womens health and family planning

3. Kaiser Anaheim
- concern: is training at a Kaiser institution in general limiting in any way?

4. Sutter Health in Sacramento
- great faculty and residents, but would rather live in SoCal
- concern: not sure how this program rates among these others

5. UC Riverside Palm Springs
- concern: its a super new program, only has one class of interns
- no med students rotate there currently
- training at a hospital that was not used to have residents, concern about quality of teaching

thank you for any thoughts and insight and advice!!

I don't know that much about those programs... what I have told my friends who are struggling with their rank lists right now, is to imagine that it's Match day and you are opening your envelope (or however you do it at your school), and assess how you feel about the choice (if you feel excited or disappointed).

On doximity...which I admit is not the greatest resource...Kaiser anaheim is closer to the top of the CA residencies and White memorial is near the bottom, with the others in between, for what it's worth. maybe someone else on this site will know more.

pick the community size you think you'll eventually want to settle in, and do a residency in a town close to that size, is what I've been told.
That way if in the future you are going to be in a small town and need to know indications for transfer, or how to take care of a broader variety of pts, etc, you'll have had a bunch of experience doing it already.
