how does the rank list work for anesthesia residency? considering we have to apply to preliminary/transitional programs. for each anesthesiology residency in the "MAIN" rank list, is there a sub-ranklist for the prelim program associated with that residency?

the reason i'm asking is because i don't want to match into a new york anesthesia program and non-NYC prelim program

For each anesthesiolgy you rank that is only 3 years..you have a secondary list that pops up next to that slot that allows you to rank your prelims/transitional for that program.

OK, so if you rank in one list only the programs which have only 3 years, where do you rank those which start with PGY-1 and have 4? And what about the situation, when you can be matched to CA-1 in the program that starts with PGY-1, but those for the first year are far to few comparing with CA-1? Do you put the same program in two different lists?
And, since we are on this track, can anybody help me with this situation( hypothetical) - what happens when a preliminary program offers you a prematch? If you accept it, you should withdraw from the 2005 match for other prelims and transitionals, but how do you stay for 2006 one, the CA-1 anesthesiology?

Primary ROL with secondary rank lists for 3 year programs
1. Albany 4 year

2. Wake forest 3 year.....
1a. yale prelimiany
2b. Harbor transi
3c. Wake FOrrest preliniary medicine

3. Wake Forest 4 year

4. Rochester 4 year

5. Rochester 3 year........
1a. Harbor transitional
2b. rochester preliminary medicine

6. Harbor transitional

* Notice I added a transitional to the primary ROL just in case I did not Match any anesthesiology. They must be added to your primary ROL to match without anesthesiology

If I initially applied to a program as only categorical, do I need to go back and change the ERAS application to also reflect my recent wish to be considered for advanced as well? What I am getting at, is whether the program will automatically consider me for an advanced position (in addition to the categorical) if/when they rank me?

I don't want to take away from the question posed by hawkdoc05 and maybe both of our questions could be answered in one shot.

When you apply to both 3 and 4 year tracks, at any particular training institution, and you are granted an interview . . . are you granted an interview for a 3 year track or a 4 year track (or both).

Say that I interview at Progam X and I really prefer the 4 year track, yet they intend to only consider me for the 3 year track.

None of the programs from which I have received invitations have specified whether I am being considered for the 3 year or the 4 year.

This could really hurt someone who is putting all the 4 year tracks at the top of the list and the 3 year tracks at the bottom.
