I would rethink those choices for your intern year. Cabrini is a joke, have you read the scutwork reviews? http://www.scutwork.com/cgi-bin/links/review.cgi?ID=3820&d=1. StV's is scutwork central. I used to hear on these boards how desirable this program is because of the location and lifestyle, but now that I'm living around NYC and talking to people who have friends there, I'm hearing a different story. It's scutwork central and the residents are miserable.

Heres mine...

Alphabetical Order
Johns Hopkins, Mayo (Jax), UNC, Vanderbilt, Wake, Wash U, Yale

I'm not sure whom you're speaking with, because both stv and cab people were really happy.
Cabrini... tons of prelims - i personally spoke, randomly (i just came up to them during morning report and then lunchtime conference) with at least 6 during my interview day. they all had perma-smiles. all work 7-4:30. call is easy - you can take it from your couch next door - amazing apartments for supercheap. i figure i want to acclimate to a new city and a new lifestyle (resident, moving in with gf) in a setting that's not going to make me crazy and unhappy.

working 80 hrs a week makes me crazy and unhappy.

StV's spoke with a random transitional radiology dude for a while. also, happy as s-it. they work a bit harder than cabrini, but reasonable.

yea, some of the residets did not seem happy at cabrini - but, only the categoricals. the prelims appreciate it for the true gem it is (a gem that has NO bearning on their careers) and spend the year not overworked and stressed.

Thought I had it all figured out but one last interview may have changed the whole damn thing!

Tentatively:

1. Univ. Chicago?
1. Hopkins?
3. Wash U
4. Mayo Rochester
5. Georgetown

In no particular order....

MGH, B&W, Hopkins, UCSF, UAB, Emory, Northwestern, Duke, U Wash, Vandy, UVA, Wake

Right now I've given each of my top 5 a slice of my dartboard, and I'm throwing a few each day.

Great thread. Love seeing what everyone else is doing. Seriously did anyone else think it would be this hard to create your ROL? My list has flip floped so much I feel as though I'm looking through a kaleidoscope.

I'm surprised no one has Stanford on their lists. Is there a problem with this program. just curious.

Mayo-Jacksonville, UVa, UF, Duke, UNC, Wake, Hopkins, UPenn in no particular order. I've got about 4 that keep changing.

It's great to see WashU on several rank lists!
If anyone has any last minute questions on the program,
feel free to contact me. I'll be happy to try to answer them.

After visiting X many programs and then trying to rank them,
they start to look alike and details get lost....

Good luck on the match!

No worries. Many of my friends matching in Anesthesia this year have Wash U within the top 3 if not #1. It seems to be a very popular program this year. Makes me regret not applying there.

My top 7, without order:
CCF, MGH, UCLA, UCI, Penn State, Rush, GWU.

Never thougth it would be so hard to decide.
Being on the interview trail I was pretty confident about my rank list and now I am moving programs up and down every day🙂

Prelims (IM):
St. Mary's (San Francisco)
Kaiser (Santa Clara)
Loma Linda
St. Joseph's (Phoenix)
UCSD
U Nevada (Reno).

does anyone wonder if PDs read this forum? I guess most of your screen names don't reveal your true identities, but mine does, so I guess I'll keep my ROL to myself so as to avoid tipping my hand. Looks like there are a lot of you that get to rank some top programs; congrats!

My ROL problem is that I have 4 in the top category, each with a different reason to make #1, and then some ambiguous middle ground, and then 2 stinkers bringing up the rear, as it were. Maybe it's the same for everyone...

What did you think of Kaiser SC? I interviewed there and I am just wondering if you found them to be favorable. Its seems like they have alot of perks but whenever they are in house they are getting pummeled with work.

please PM members with specific questions.
limit this thread to rank lists only.
thank you.

(In no particular order) Penn, Stanford, JHU, UCSD, Vandy, UVa

In no particular order as of yet, my top 5 are.

U of C, UTSW (me likey, me likey), Columbia, Mt Sinai, NW(this one is iffy).

Top five in no particular order: Miami, Ut-Houston, Rush, Tulane, Illinois-Masonic

Hi guys - I'm a 3rd year at Sinai who's interest in Anesthesiology stemmed from my OB and surgery clerkships - I just did my 1-week Anesth. clerkship (the Sinai dept is incredible) and that completely solidifed everything for me! I was just looking at your lists and it seems that everyone is applying to top places (which is great) - but how do you vary your list so that you have "safeties", middle and reach schools - it's not like med school where you had the AAMC book that listed MCAT/GPA scores. Thanks a bunch and good luck to you all!

1. MGH
2. BWH

I very recently changed my mind on the order here after revisiting the programs. Both are undeniably great places.

Top 5 in no order (actually, I'm having significant trouble with the order): MGH, Duke, UCLA, UCSF, BWH

still trying to finalize the order, but my top 4 alphabetically:

Emory
Stanford
UCSF
UTSW

no real order--
Top 6 🙂
Siani
Cornell(3)
Cornell(4)
Columbia
UPENN
NYU
MGH

Prelim-
St. Vincents (Tran)
Lij(Prelim)
Winthrop(prelim)
St. Lukes(prelim)
NYU-Downtown(prelim)

In no particular order..................

Indiana Univ
Thomas jefferson
Yale
Miami
UAMS

tiers in continual rotation is as best as i can do right now--PM me if you've got any bright ideas for a resolution

1-3: BWH, UCSF, UChicago

4-6: Northwestern, OHSU, UMichigan

in general, how many programs are you guys ranking? my advisor told me to look at the number of spots available rather than the actual number of programs that you are ranking. do all of you agree or am i just losing my mind with this ranking bs?
as always, any thoughts would be appreciated.

I plan on ranking 10 anes and 6 prelim progams

Top 5 In no particular order I'll be very happy at any of the programs
Einstein
Rochester
Sinai
MCW
Maryland

Prelim (could be in that order!!!)
Einstein/Montefiore
UMDNJ-Newark
RWJ
UIC
UofC
Rush

1. Mich
2. Wisc
3. Vandy
4. Nebraska

Changes daily

I didn't notice too many people who were ranking UVa or Northwestern very highly. Is there something I'm missing here?

Didn't apply to Northwestern, but was EXTREMELY impressed with UVa. EXTREMELY! Residents were the happiest and friendliest group I've met. Mostly married, but not all. Chair and PD very impressive, very personable. During my time there, I didn't really see a healthy patient there, lots of complicated cases making for great training. Surgeon-relationship was stellar. Brand-new OR's, beautiful and huge, with windows along the back wall of the OR-area and brand new machines in the new rooms. Strong didactics as well.

Alas, they're not a certain #1. Charlottesville was expensive, from the housing to the food. The affordable-housing market is quite tight. Lots of building going on in the outskirts with only 1-2 access roads, so transportation could become a problem. It's a small town. It's a college town. It's beautiful with nice people. It may be for us.

I have a couple buddies that are really psyched about trying to match at NW, and a couple of the private practice folks I've met were from UVA and really, really liked it. For me, NW kind of turned me off on the interview day. The things that the residents felt made their program special weren't really what I wanted to focus on. I also kind of felt the interviewers were aloof, all except the chair. That and the AM conference seemed a little malignant to me, but I know other applicants that day didn't necessarily agree. You can see that this is all sort of vague and subjective, and it's a program with a great reputation, so I'm sure there are people out there who really want to go. For me there were just too many of these vague, subjective things stacking up against them.

Anyone with comments on the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville? University of Florida?

Also, quick poll as to how many of you are putting location ahead of prestige, and vice versa?

I finalized and certified my rank-order list today for the last time... I think. I'm sure the NRMP server is about ready to crash with the number of automated emails it's sent me in the last 24 hours.

And, yes, I weighed location strongly.

GasPundit,
I sent you a PM

I spoke to the anesthesia office at BID. The anesthesia program came through the review with flying colors. The status was reflective of the surgical residency program duty hours. The problem within the surgery residency has been rectified. The anesthesia department resident hours are between 50-55 hours including lecture time. No worries. I am still ranking them number one. 🙂 🙂 🙂

Just a word of the wise to anyone ranking Miami or BID... you might want to check out this thread, in case you haven't already:

Just FYI. Make up your own minds.

What a lowblow
People take so much time in getting their ranklist together and you put out this kind of crappy information. Worry about your own programs and stop making people panic and self doubt themselves again, especially the day before they have to make a big decision.
