My Jan '07 MCAT SCORE = 32...is there any chance that by next year national scores would have inflated to a point where 32 is no longer competitive for D.O.?

I applied to NYCOM class of 2008 but got waitlisted due being too late in the cycle. I plan to (re)apply to these northeast schools for class of 2010 so anything you know about these 4, please share!

How late did you apply? What is considered to be late?

Why aren't you applying this cycle? A 32 is really good for DO, and will still be good next year. All of those schools are good schools. It just depends on your personal preference.

:scared::scared: Man if it gets to the point where a 32 isn't even competitive for DO, thats when I log off SDN and go hand in an application to Taco Bell.

Just outta curiosity, when you say you applied too late for NYCOM the last time, when exactly did you apply?

Late meant AACOMAS in Dec, then delayed and finally complete in early Feb.

Ok, I'm not reapplying this year because I'm taking a year off to pursue some other things; and it would also give me some time to do DO shadowing stuff.

So are these schools really equal? That can't be true...since NYCOM is obviously more credible than TOURO, for example...

peterish. You will find a plethora of reasons why some people like one school as compared to another. The "#1 School" is whatever is good for you. If you would like some varying opinions on how current students (or recently graduated students) feel about their schools, I would suggest checking out this link:

http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=407104

It's got a lot of really good OPINIONS about why they like and dislike their schools. At the end of the day, however, the best school for you is whatever makes you happy.

Good luck.

Thx that was a good reply, I will chek out that thread. What I'm trying to get out of this thread is an idea of whether to simply apply to all 4, or exclude some due to heavy negative factors. For example, Touro is very new and doesn't have thorough facilities(sorry to keep picking on Touro!)

If that's the only four you're considering, I'd say keep them all on the list. A 32 is a great score but you never know what'll happen in the admissions game not too mention you want the opportunity to visit and compare as many schools as possible. Did you already visit all 4 schools this cycle? If there's one you didn't like you should cross it off, but it's always better to keep your options open.

1.PCOM 2. UMDNJ 3. NYCOM 4. Touro-NY

I think that is pretty much just opinion via SDN.

PCOM is definitely #1

everything else is tied for a distant 2nd

I hear very good things about NYCOM though , as well. Interestingly, I don't hear much about UMDNJ, for some reason. I'd definitely be interested in knowing more about it (time to go search :p) though.

After talking to graduates and current students of about 10 DO schools, there are some D.O. schools that I will definitely not apply to under any circumstances. While there are others, that I will apply to no matter what because of their consistently stellar information. PCOM is definitely in the latter category.

I'll be the first to say that I had some doubts about going to NYCOM after the whole administration/attendance policy fiasco some time ago, but I gotta admit that so far I love the school. There are always people who are better lecturers than others at all schools, but I noticed that lecturers that are less engaging have excellent notes so it evens out in the end.

Really, as mentioned, the best school is the one you feel the most at home at.

NYCOM/PCOM are my top DO choices. I can only pray that I end up in the situation where I have to decide between acceptances between the two.

I think the consensus is right BUT really the only rankings that matter are your own in my opinion. Pick a place you trust, and believe will give you the education you desire. It could be any of these schools depending on all of the variables that you weigh into them......SDN is not the law just a small sample, lets not forget this.

Goodluck!

Yea.

One thing I would put forth is you seriously consider the third and fourth years of various schools. This is going to have a huge affect on your future. You want a school that won't just leave you out to dry.
