does anyone know which schools have the highest specialty rates? And by specialty rates i mean going into ortho, endo, pediatrics, etc..not the residency programs...i know harvard is number one, but does anyone know maybe the top FIVE in order from highest to lowest? thanks for any input!

Based on match rate%
#1 Harvard
#2 UCLA
#3 UCONN
#4 and #5 UPENN and Columbia
*UW also has a high match rate and may be one of the top 5.

Based on # of students accepted to a specialty program:
#1 UCLA
#2 and #3 UPENN and Columbia
#4 Harvard (because it only has 35 dental students)
#5 UCONN (40 dental students)

Interesting. I've wondered about that too. What's the source of your info?

UF claims to have 100% placement.... I was told in my interview that everyone who wants to specialize gets into a program.

Match rate placement % is good, but to really see what's happening you need to know the number of applicants.

Would you rather attend a school that has 2 applicants apply and 2 applicants match (for a 100% match rate), or a school that has 40 applicants apply and 36 match (for a 90% match rate)?

Actually, if you wanted to specialize it probably wouldn't matter which school you attended.

hello super c,

i am going to interview at florida soon. i have heard it is a committee interview. is this true? also, what was your impression of the school? i am strongly considering specializing; if they tell you the match ratio is 100% should that just be a heads up as to something is fishy?

thanks for the help guys!!

also, if florida has a 100% match ratio, y is it not on the list presented earlier (with harvard number one, ucla number two, etc)??

Wouldn't that be a dream school then...? I find this information VERY HARD to believe!

Er, "ortho, endo, pediatrics, etc..." are the residency programs.

i'm sure she was referring to the general practice residency or AEGD

While some of these are top schools, I doubt this ranking. There are a number of top schools that you are leaving out. I assume this is simply your opinion?

Not my opinion. It's my understanding based on the info I gathered during my interviews. I don't have my papers with me. So I don't have the exact numbers. I don't know about the schools I haven't visited or read about. I didn't apply to many schools. I doubt UF or any other school has a 100% match rate. It's a lie. I am not sure if UPENN's match rate is higher than Columbia's. That's why I put them both on the same line. I don't know UW's match rate so I wrote a little comment. During my interviews I heard that UW has a high match rate but it looks like UW's avg is 20 in some years and 21 in some other years. I don't know anything about UW and I don't want to make too many assumptions. All I know is UW is a good school. You can add your top choices to the list. I don't know much about other schools. I only know about 6 or 7 schools.

UF's dental committee is shady, so I wouldn't be surprised if they lied about their match rate..scummies

Just out of curiousity...if you take your boards in one region of the country but end up specializing in another, are you licensed to practice in both places? I'm not really sure how licensing works except that there are different boards for different areas of the country....but how does it work after specialty programs? the same way?

I cannot tell you why UF is not on that "list". Nor can I tell you where that list came from. The person that made the post did not provide a source of their information. All I can tell you is that the Dean of Admissions at UF told us during our luncheon that pretty much everyone who "wants" to specialize does so. When you interview, you will most likely receive the same presentation. So you can judge for yourself.

As for the interview... It is 3 on 1. You can read about it in the interview feed back section.

I would doubt that UF would lie. Furthermore, the ad com is far from shady. The interview is difficult, but that is about it.

No interview is difficult. If you can talk without stuttering you'll be fine. Interviews were the fun part of the application process. You got to meet tons of cool professors, administrators, and students. What is hard out about that?
