Anyone have input into programs in the SW states Utah, Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico?

UNM
U of Utah
U of Arizona
St Joseph
Penrose
U of Colorado

U of Utah >> all the rest. Better history, better hospitals, ARUP. Some of those other programs are good though, likely to give you as good an education as anywhere else. IMHO Utah is kind of in a class of its own in that area. UNM is improving a lot though. Penrose is a really good private program.

if you want to do CP fellowship after your training, go for Utah. I don't think its AP is above all others.

Does anyone have anything to say about UArizona? Not much came up with a search, but I've heard conflicting reports that it is an "average at best" program to "very strong". If anyone with first-hand knowledge (or even hearsay) has anything to offer, it would be great.

bumping...the residents from UA seemed to get good fellowships...how big of a deal would it be to train there versus a stronger program (i.e. Utah, Iowa, Ohio State caliber). I am from Arizona and want to go back, but am really torn with location vs. quality of program.

If anyone has any insight or would like to share their thoughts, please do so.

UA: Strong program in warm weather  oh Yeah!!

Is it strong? I really don't know, but have been told that it is not bad, but just average. How would it compare to the programs I listed above (Utah, Ohio State, Iowa).

I interviewed at most of those programs. I would have chose UA first out of those that you listed (I'm not at any of them). I don't think Utah, OSU, UNM etc. are a different caliber of program than Arizona. Fellowships aren't gonna say we got a guy who trained at UA and a guy who trained at Utah, we'll definately take the guy from Utah:laugh:. Go with the program that seems to fit you best out of the ones you list. All are decent middle teir programs.
