Hi guys
I'm a fresh IMG with 82/83 scores and 4 mos rotation in thoracic surgery and clinical research in the same field in a big US institute. I want to know how to rate my situation.
in other words should I focus on catigorical of prelims? community of university programs?

i wondered if anyone can give his advice

I get a little nervous when some other guy wants me to rate his package ... just kidding. I couldn't resist. In any event ... others can give you better advice than I can ... I just had to respond.

I was thinking the same thing....you beat me to it.

I think the best advice would be to appy to many different programs. Think numbers and types. It can be very hard for a FMG to break into a categorical spot at a big university, even with a stellar CV.

Apply in all geographic areas, to community and university affiliated programs. I would also look at preliminary spots. If you shine, you may be able to stay on as either at prelim or categorical. I know several residents who will finish an entire GS residency as preliminary residents.

Good Luck.

At my school, which is a US med school, we are encouraged to apply to at least 20 programs. That leaves some programs left after we eliminate the ones we don't like and the ones that might not like us. I think most of us would rather spend the extra money than have to scramble.

Good luck, 🙂

Reporting your scores as the two digit number is meaningless in the States. We use the three digit scores. I don't know of any way to convert from one to the other.

But you should apply to enough schools so that you have 15-20 interviews.
