What do you guys think the ratio of acceptances to interviews is around? is it like 1/4, 1/3, 1/2? If you have been accepted anywhere, please give your ratio. I was just wondering because I may not be able to attend over 5 or 6 interviews.

it's very individual and dependent on your interview skills/strength of your app.

there are some people that will go on 10 interviews and get accepted at nearly every school and some that go on the same number and get waitlisted or rejected nearly everywhere.

i got accepted to 50% of schools that i interviewed at.

1/4 accepted (1 week on the waitlist), 1/4 still on a waitlist, 1/2 rejected. All my interviews were in the spring, and most likely due to a 29N on the MCAT.

Accepted at 4/7, waitlisted at 3/7 (withdrew from all the waitlists).

For me, if given an interview, I was accepted 35% of the time. Waitlisted 30% of the time. Rejected 35% of the time.

Don't worry if you can only go on 5 or 6 interviews. Just make sure you prep well for them.

I had 7 interviews: 6 acceptances, and 1 rejection.

Five interviews, 4 acceptances.

When I was picking my schools I used the MSAR book to find out what the ratios for the schools I was thinking of applying to were. (Accepted/Applied) It was a great way to help narrow down my list.
For (accepted/interviewed)
What I found was that my state schools had a percentage of about 1/2. I assume that this was a little higher for low tier private schools, and less for private schools like Harvard, JHU, Duke and so on.
As far as my personal info it was
3 interviews I didn't attend. 4 I did attend. 2 accepted, 1 rejected, and 1 withdrew before I found out.

I agree that it is highly dependent on the individual applicant. But if you feel it helps, out of 7 interviews I attended:

5 acceptances
1 waitlisted and withdrew
1 waitlisted and accepted

From what I've seen from the MSAR, in general, a school will interview about 1/10 of applicants, and admit around 1/5 to 1/3 all interviewees.

George Washington is a bit of an extreme case, but if I recall approx:
13,000 apply
1,000 interview
200 people in the class

But who knows exactly... they overadmit and take people off the waitlist.

interviewed at 6. accepted by 2, waitlisted at 3 (later accepted by 1), and rejected by 1

this would be true if all applicants were equal and chosen at random, but all things aren't equal. you can't compare yourself to a statistic and estimate your chances that way.

I wasn't trying to make that large assumption. I just posted the numbers.

However, I would say that the 1/4 statistic regarding interviewees should be taken seriously. Generally, they only interview people who are judged to be academically qualified.

By comparison, what gets posted on SDN is purely anecdotal and self-selected.

from experience and from what ive heard from others, the going rate seems to be about one acceptance for every three interviews. barring you are a sh1tty/superhuman candidate, of course.

Statistically , assuming you have no red flags such as lousy LOR's

%-6 interviews, likely at least one acceptance.

If you want to be a Physician

Reality: Schedule all possible interviews, and start cancelling interviews
you really do not want to attend after your first acceptance.

As everyone said - its very individual - if you're a good interviewee then you'll do better than someone who isn't.

I went of 4 interviews and got 4 acceptances.

But if money is your concern apply early hope for an early acceptance and then you can cancel places you are not as interested in.

How many interviews/spot is very dependent on the school. Some interview almost 1,000 people for 150 spots while others only interview 300. 5-6 interviews isn't a bad number to attend especially if you go to a couple, get accepted somewhere and then cherry-pick from your remaining choices.

yea, for sure. schedule all the interviews that you can until you have an acceptance. then, you cancel the rest.
