RAVE HERE thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
back on the BG discussion: everyone told me season 2 is peak and by far the best season, even online i've seen people bash season 3. but i am lovingggg season 3. without spoiling for those who want to watch it in the future: the expanded storyline and progression of so many characters just ROCKS.

obviously jonathan bailey is still the #1 yearning bridgerton son, nothing beats that. but colin and benedict are up there. penelope is such a peak character IMO. that may be me with my rose tinted glasses on bc i have loved her character since S1, but we shall see. Season 4 seems to be a shake up no doubt.

( i also find myself speaking and typing with their same mannerisms; i am fully hooked on this)

For years now, I have “joking not joking” said “The party line is that I live with my mom because housing is prohibitively expensive here, but the real reason is that we both get lonely and would live together even if we could afford not to.” It is a mutually beneficial thing. However, it is not considered socially acceptable in our society to live with your mom in your 30s. We decided to go in on a 2-flat together. We each get our own apartment but are in the same building. We found the perfect house in some new construction and put down an offer. The house should be finished this summer.

i hope every student decides to do a community clinic at some point during their education. vet med isnt all shiny new innovations and the latest technology and you can seriously make an impact in your local community in need.

(no but really, we need more shelter/community medicine vets!!)
also plug: ASPCA opened applications for a new scholarship if you're interested in shelter/community/HQHVSN after graduation. You can get up to 100k!

my OG goal was shelter med, but then i fell in love with research and one health (all three of these being severely under talked about/lacking interest IMO) so this is such a difficult decision.

one of the dr’s i worked with was retired from practice and would come to the shelter clinic 2x a week to see patients just for fun. i think that’s probably what i would do. retire and then work/volunteer at community and shelter clinics.

Yes! One of the GP docs I work with volunteers twice a week at a nonprofit vet clinic doing surgery and appointments for low income communities. Even if you don't go into shelter med completely, there are opportunities to help out!

Thank you so much for doing this work. Low cost spay/neuter and vaccines in order to cut costs have been only reason I could keep my pets at various points in my life. My pets are the light of my life.

I am so freaking excited about this scholarship!!! Literally started filling out the application the day it opened lol. As someone planning to work in shelter/community med + HQHVSN, weighing my student loans with the lower starting salaries has been so stressful. I know it's what I want to do in my career, but the financial aspect is intimidating. This will make such a big difference in the shelter med community ❤️

The past few weeks have been extremely challenging and I publicly cried in multiple airports yesterday due to ~recent events~, but one small piece of good news to keep me going…

The Seahawks are going to the Super Bowl!!! 💚💙💚💙
That game was so wild!!! I hope they win it all!

I couldnt decide where to put this, but its mainly a rave so its going here.

My BFF from vet school texted me a few days ago. She submitted her can I move to Canada application after the most recent incident. Of course it came back almost immediately as expedited entry. I am SO beyond over the moon happy and thrilled for her. We have been talking about at what point do we leave for awhile now. Like if everything goes through I'm ready to take a week or so off work to go help her move. There are still quite a few hoops for her to jump through but her and her husband are very seriously considering moving permanently.

Now for my pitty party: Part of me is sad. Like I know we will still be connected but part of it feels like shes going to be so far away (we don't see each other often as she lives in AZ)...maybe its the whole being in a different country aspect idk. Its also probably partially jealousy too because my husband's job doesnt transfer out of the states really so being able to go abroad is not super feasible for us and would take a ton of sacrafice for our family on that and other aspects. With that being said when I look at my child there are so many positives of moving to somewhere like Canada that would make his life better and safer long term. However it would also mean him not growing up with his grandparents as a regular presence in his life like they are now. Its just saddening to some degree.

Just feeling the feels and keep hoping one day soon things will get turned around. But also I hate moving. Hubs and I do have an exit strategy if we have to but yeah.

Super excited for her and waiting to see what's in store.

Carry a stuffed animal in your mouth and leave it on her bed. Meow to let her know. She'll appreciate your thoughtfulness and you can trade off on hunting duty every night.

Just noticed Rant here and rave here started the same year and rant here is more than twice as long. Inspires me to contribute more raves.
It briefly felt like trying to co-locate with my support system was a lost cause when I got rejected from Auburn but it is STILL possible! My partner keeps racking up interviews, and now he has ones near 4 schools I've been accepted to and 1 school I interviewed at (UF vet plus the adcoms of all 6 med schools please please be nice to us).
PLUS even if it doesn't work out 4 years apart will be worth it if we both get to achieve our dreams and then spend the rest of our lives together.

Huge hats off to all y'all braving the LDRs.

It's hard, but it is worth it. I've been doing LD with my boyfriend of 7 years since I started vet school in another province in 2024 (~3.5h drive). It felt nearly unbearable at first and I wasn't sure how I was gonna survive, and it's always hard to leave again after a period of time together, but it does get easier. Moving to a new province by myself has allowed for a significant period of personal growth that I think I needed to forge on my own. I even find it somewhat of an adjustment now when I go home for breaks and have to get used to being around other people 24/7 again lol. We try to make sure we get at least one weekend a month together and text lots.

There's a touristy old western town an hour away (it's where all the millionaires live, lol) but they have the best bakery, so I used my day off today to run over there and pick up sourdough bread and some pastries. I don't do it often but I've been thinking about their bread all week and I had to have some :biglove:

i started dating my partner 2 months before i moved a 12 hour drive away for vet school :0. perhaps not my wisest decision but i’d make it again. yes the distance does make my life harder but despite that he still makes my life easier (and better!) and i feel like i get a nice combination of independence/self-sufficiency and support. hopefully yall can stay close but distance is not as bad as it seems 🙂

Your autograph pookie!!! lol but some things I’ve seen that are vet med related are like, a vet med textbook of your choice, winter gear for my fellow ambo girlies, gift cards to coffee shops, travel mugs, registration to a virtual CE event, scrubs, accessories like stethoscope charms, cute badge holders, cute compression socks. Good pens and a small notebook that fits in a scrub pocket are 👩‍🍳 💋 for clinics. There’s also like medical fanny pack things that were admittedly not popular or necessary at my school but I’ve seen other students that visited bring them - I guess they were required to have their own bandage scissors, thermometers, etc?

Also have you dropped your IG here bc I’d follow you!!

Ive also seen some cute stickers on etsy that i purchased a while ago. Not sure if they are still up. But things like come here you pedicle you. Various other surgery ones that were hilarious. Also fearful certified instead of fear free certified haha

The kitten drought is OVER! After my last foster pair got adopted, I finally got another little cutie to cuddle until she goes to her furever home! She's the sweetest little calico and I named her Asali, which means, "honey," in Swahili. At least it does according to Google translate. I could have named her Coconut for all I know.

I finally had the chance to take a KILLER nap today. Is my sleep schedule completely ****ed and that's why I'll probably be up till 4am? Yes. Was it worth it and would I do it again? Absolutely.
tbh I love siestas in the modern day and I can't figure out why I ever hated them so much in childhood

Meanwhile I was taking a solid 2 hour nap almost every single day after school from kindergarten through high school just. In hindsight, my parents must have really not given a **** because the signs that I had a sleep disorder that entire time were so obvious lol

I definitely did this in high school and college (maybe middle, I don’t remember). Thaaaaaanks hypersomniaaaa 🤗🤗🤗🤗

lower starting salaries has been so stressful

Colorado Humane (formerly the Denver Dumb Friends League) has a med director position open right now for 150-170k! Tbf, that's definitely an outlier. But bigger more well know facilities are getting up there!!

Huge hats off to all y'all braving the LDRs.

Can confirm almost 5 years into marriage and 8 years into the relationship, totes worth it. Would do again.

why they changed their name, i will never understand
Their answer is “Humane Colorado reflects who we are today and the impact we make as leaders in animal welfare both in Colorado and nationally. Since 1910, we have responded to the community’s needs and our services have evolved to meet them. Additionally, the term “dumb,” which was used to refer to animals because they lacked the power of human speech, is outdated, unrecognized by new community members, and insensitive. Our new name reflects our long-standing mission and values, the people we work with, and the animals and communities we serve.”

you know what i meant haha 😭😭😭

I honestly agree. If people didn't understand, they could look it up or just not even worry about it. It's a shelter that takes in 24mil a year. I don't think they have to worry about it.

sorry i’m dumb- you agree with the name change or you agree with me not understanding their name change? it was way more iconic as it was originally! way more memorable !
