Today was lovely. I lounged around, put some ribs in the crockpot, and read the rest of my Sookie Stackhouse book. In my PJs. It was splendid.

I know! 😀

My degree came in the mail today! It felt weird to hold 4 years of work in my hands...

I've been pulling lots of blood, taking rads, placing IV catheters, and intubating at work. It's all very exciting and fun. My coworkers are really investing a lot of time into getting me ready for vet school. They are awesome! My boss recently commented on all of my hard work, and it made me feel great. It's great and all, but can I have a raise, too?🙄

Got a call back about the job. He'd still be willing to give it to me. Going to the vet school tomorrow to talk about it and meet the people I would work with. Super excited!

Wahoo!!!!!

Some raves:
Went to the dentist this morning. I have some pretty major issues (wisdom teeth are in and at least 1 is sideways, veneers on front 2 teeth from earlier chips that were improperly placed, haven't been to a dentist since right before vet school, 50% overbite, etc) to take care of and HATE going because some of my teeth are pretty sensitive. This was the first dentist I've been to that actually does a great job. His hygienist didn't cause any pain during the cleaning, either.

I think I am going to get a job offer today. I got a call last night from the people that are opening their own practice about wanting to finalize some things today at 3. I've actually been more anxious about this than anything else - if I do get the offer, I'm not sure about what to do. Will elaborate on that more if it does happen.

The project I have spent the last 5 months working on, is mostly complete and on-line.
It is a tool to search for labs worldwide that provide genetic disease testing and provides info on the gene, chromosome, mutation, research etc involved (where available).

The hope is all clinicians will eventually use it to find info on where to get stuff tested.

Here's the link for any of you who want to find errors in my work 🙂eek🙂.
We are publishing a paper announcing it, and I will get lead author for this. he he

Good luck! I hope you get the news you want!

Congrats! It looks awesome. And here I thought you weren't actually doing anything productive when you went to work. 😛

I got the job! I got the job! I got the job! 😀

So excited! Hahaha I was actually #1 on his list to be hired, so that was nice to hear! 🙂

Man I thought you were doing something useful in that lab. 😉

(Congratulations, it is a great idea that is fairly necessary!!) 🙂

Congrats, SOV and PetPony!!

And now for cake, because I didn't feel it warranted a whole thread (unless you want to see an abundance of wedding photos).

The bridal cake (note: those are Gerbera daisies on top - the really dark one was actually red, but poor lighting made it turn out darker)

The groom's cake (his mom made him 2 raccoon tails which he wore around all the time while pretending he was raccoon Mario when he was little)

They kind of missed the mark with the "coins" since they turned out looking like rings from Sonic the Hedgehog, but whatevs... it was delicious.

That top cake is gorgeous! Super nice and summery. 😍

Tanooki mario cake is done really well, too. I'm totally useless at decorating with icing and so in awe of people that can do it prettily.

I am so happy with how the top one turned out! The color was perfect!

I'm going to nerd out for a second 😳 Raccoon Mario (gets a tail and ears after obtaining the super leaf) is actually not the same as Tanooki Mario (full costume). But yes, it turned out really well! I'm pretty sure they just used an edible image, but I didn't get a chance to try any of Mario himself so who knows what he was made of lol.

The wedding cake is gorgeous - I love the designs. And the groom's cake made me smile... boys will be boys! 🙂

Hehe didn't know that on raccoon/tanooki mario! Never really played mario much, I just know my boyfriend geeked out when I named my ferret Tanuki (from the actual animal) and had to listen to him go on about it for a while. 😛

We have some sake at home in a tanuki-shaped bottle.😀 The amount of ridiculous surrounding those legends are high. Their power is held in their testicles, after all.

Yeah, I didn't play Super Mario Bros. 3 at all, so I was like 😕 but then wikipedia helped a ton and now I understand lol. I think Tanuki is the perfect name for a ferret!!

My mother has had one of these dudes on her shelf since she studied abroad in Japan in high school, and I remember my entertainingly awkward childhood conversation about the testicles, haha.

I'm pretty sure the tanuki sake was a business gift to my dad in Japan when we lived there....

Don't get me wrong, I love it there and the culture is great. Tanuki folklore is a little different is all.

Went back to visit the first vet clinic I ever saw the inside of. Started "shadowing" there when I was 12-14, since the vet was an old family friend. After he passed away, the new vet gave me a job the day I turned 16, and I worked there all through high school and during my first few breaks during undergrad. The vet wrote an amazing LOR when I applied to school. So many good friends and I learned so much there - and business is booming, the place looks great, all redone and shiny new on the outside with more renovation plans in the works. Made me so happy to see all that, and so many of the same faces working there!

so not officially offered the job, but given a contract to look over. I should be excited to have a way out, but the offer is such a lowball one, I'm not even sure that with negotiation it would be doable. But I guess it means I'm hire-able!

Ah man, sucks that it is a low offer. I like your attitude though. You always seem so positive.

It would be ok if it were just a lower salary. But its $15k lower. And they are only offering 5 days of vacation per year. And they aren't offering VIN. And it will be production based even though it is a new practice that is starting. I would be fine with it if they had something to make it worth it.

I'm not always this positive, but I need to find a way out of my situation. I may just use this as a bargaining chip with the current people.

You are clearly hireable! And a bargaining chip is always good to have.

That is so awesome. 🙂 I wish I was able to do that, but unfortunately when I was that age I wasn't completely sure of what I wanted to do.

Just got my 5th year rotation schedule!!!

Get to do a rota in Morocco! :soexcited:

My BF just got offered a really amazing opportunity today making 20K more a year than he requested on his application . We just looked at each other like 😱. Very proud of him. He gets to take 2 week, 3 month, 6 month, and 1 year "deployments" when he wants to Afghanistan (he's working on military spy planes but not enlisted anymore). He will make 175K tax free for a year deployment! 😱 Pretty big upgrade from PT Home Depot lol. The first thing he said to me... "I'll go work for a year and pay off your vet school!"
Ummm...... OK! 😀 😉

And the best part... he stopped being a douche over the last 3 months and started putting our relationship before everything else. 👍
:xf: it continues!

Thanks! When do you start the new J-O-B?! 😀

I start training for it on June 18th. We could've done earlier, but there would've been a gap between my training and starting work, so this seemed to make more sense. Also, I'd have to live with my brother and go back and worth between Athens and where my mom lives, because I haven't moved into the house yet and I'd only be working weekends after training. I still have to live with my brother for a few days, but it's easier with the move.

I'm so excited! We don't actually get to have much physical contact with the animals unless a tech or student asks for help, but just the change from working around and for people to working around and for animals makes me so excited. Also, cleaning stalls is a good stress reliever for me, so I really don't mind it much - especially if I get paid for it!

I may not need surgery on my knee after all!! 😀

I need to have another MRI done on it, as long as I haven't torn a bunch of cartilage (which is what the doctor thinks is wrong🙁) I will not need to have surgery. I had an MRI done two years ago and it did not show any torn cartilage so :xf: that this one turns out the same.

I got a raise!😀 And I took rads all by myself yesterday! And they were great!
....but I broke the centrifuge (that is now fixed).😳
