I am ready to rock out this third application and get an acceptance this year!! :xf:

That's how all the cool kids have done it😎. This will be the year!

Sounds like a rough spring/summer you have had. Best wishes for a full and fast recovery!

Mayhem Festival today! 😀 with friends I haven't seen in years!

I am wayyy overdue for some live, loud, & fast music!

A whole pound of Mackinac Island fudge is in my fridge...😀

I'll be right there.... 😉

My rave for the week: I got a B on my o-chem test last week! YAY! This puts me at a B for the class. Our final is next Wednesday. I will be a zombie between now and then but goddammit I am getting a B in this effing class if it kills me. :meanie:

Also: The kitten with a missing foot that I rescued on Friday has been pronounced healthy and gets to keep the remainder of his leg, has been neutered and vaccinated, and is going to his "foster"/trial run home on Saturday with literally the best owner I could have hoped for. Please keep your fingers crossed that it works out with her current pets, because she's a former vet tech, wonderful owner, and I reaaaally want the kitten to stay with her. :xf:

Leaving tomorrow for a quick night in Philly then heading to Chicago to celebrate our 8th wedding anniversary by going to Lollapalooza! Cannot wait!

Exciting! I would chuckle whenever I heard the lineup on AltNation. They'd be like, "Coldplay! Muse! Cold War Kids!"

Me: "WOW, I would really li..."

Radio: "Eminem! Foo Fighters!"

Me: "...ugg."

It looks like a good lineup though. Deftones were a fun concert, and my husband just say Ok Go at the Cisco Live concert and thought they were really good. (He said Train sucked :d)

Have fun!

We went in 2008 and it was AMAZING. It was like 1995: Nine Inch Nails, Radiohead, Rage Against the Machine, plus The Raconteurs, Black Keys, etc., etc. This year's lineup isn't as great, but it's still a good time and we are definitely looking forward to it. I might be looking forward to a Chicago-style deep dish with sausage and mushrooms a little more, but don't tell my husband that! 😉

Shiny Littman Cardio III is SHINY!!!!!!!!!😍

A small step forward - Dalhousie is finally doing something about my 5 remaining credits. The academic advisor said I should have no problem getting credit for my work at AVC to finish off my BSc. So I submitted a letter of permission to Dal and then... it seemingly dropped off the face of the planet. Cue me chasing the registrar's office and the departments. Finally, they added Immunology and a random Biology elective to my academic record. I've now submitted to get credit for Parasitology as well. Two down, three to go!

I just finished my Christmas cards. No feeling guilty in December because I don't have time to make them, and the paper was on sale since it's out of season. Not bad.

OK. so you made them but please tell me you didn't write the notes and address the envelopes to because then I'm just going to make fun of you. 🙂

Hahaha. No, I made them and signed them as "From TT and Husband." The note will be typed and printed, same for everyone, sometime in December, and the addresses/stamps will wait.

send em now! i think people should send christmas cards in july so that you get fun things in the summer too! and not just because you're stressed out and it's "holiday tradition." yes, i have this argument every year with my mother who *never* manages to get her cards out until well after christmas despite starting in november because she's insanely busy and does sooo much at that time of year. she stresses over it like crazy!

i am done with work for the summer! no more 12a-8a shift for me! loved my job, like the hours, miss sleeping when its dark out haha (and the commute at 60 mi per day was not awesome). and with work ending, that means i have 5 days before i leave for school!

There is a baby horse in my backyard. She makes me want to stay here forever, middle of nowhere and all.

My foster bunny went to his forever home last night with the absolute best adopter anyone could ask for. He is going to be spoiled rotten. His new dad came to pick him up with this blue fancy carrier with a sheepskin bed 🙂

Today is my last day of work. I've been here for seven years and today is my very last day. I've transitioned off all of my responsibilities, and I've done all of the training I needed to do, but I still don't think I believe it... even though I've got nothing to do today except peruse SDN 😀

Today is my last day of work too. I've been working in this lab for 3 1/2 yrs now. Last week my boss told me she was going on vacation for 2 weeks so she wouldn't see me today. When I finally had to say goodbye to her I cried. I have a feeling that's going to happen again this afternoon. I love this job so much. As excited as I am about going to vet school, I'm just as heartbroken I have to leave here.

I have to clean my desk, check on the mice, and then have a beer with colleagues! ...and of course browse sdn. 🙂

Congrats to you both! Today is also my last day.

I wish I had a boss that cared about anyone but himself (no "Congratulations on being accepted to Vet school"... no "way to go".... just "oh.... Vet school. You have to do what you have to do". Jerk.)

That is my thought for today:

Three more hours and I'm unemployed! Woot! (and yes, SDN, the Daily Show and blogging have filled my day)

My last day too! Not heading to vet school yet, just moving cross country. I'm kind of sad - I have worked here for 4 and a half years! We're having a party tomorrow night and going out, so that'll be fun.

When I finally had to say goodbye to her I cried. I have a feeling that's going to happen again this afternoon.

My boss hugged me goodbye and I totally teared up. Luckily he left the room before I started crying. (I think he was teary too...) I've been so weepy this week. Understandable, but, ugh, it needs to stop! I've got stuff to do!!

My rave, though, is that my boss gave me an iPad as a going away/congratulations present. 😱 Holy cow, what a great surprise!

😱 At the risk of telling you something you already know, you have an awesome boss.

👍 I agree.

At the risk of sounding really old, though... I haven't even looked into what an iPad can do. I knew I couldn't afford one, so I sort of ignored them. I have no idea where to even start or what it can do for me in school. I feel like my mom - so out of it technologically...

There are a couple threads that have talked about iPads but if you read through the UC Davis thread. (I think the page is near the end) - there is a whole conversation about what people are doing with their iPads for school.

Let me see if I can find it real quick.

congrats on the new toy!

Yes our deep dish is the best!!!! I've just decided what I'll be eating for dinner tonight

My hubby got a new job today. He will be firefighting in a city a little north of school. Unfortunately we have to move (job requirement) closer to that city. The commute to school will be worth it though because he will be doing what he loves.

Yay hubby! Yay house shopping! Yay decorating new house! (and yay to wine nights in said new house!)

OMFG. Today was my last day at work - the boss bought lunch, got me a cake, and came out with a present - a Littman Cardio III!!!!!!

*dies of joy* I am so flabbergasted by this super duper going away present.

That is so freaking awesome for the both of you! Congrats!!! Hope that commute isn't too long.

Thanks! It's about 40 minutes. I think I can handle it. I have some friends that have offered me a place to stay if I'm at school late studying or something *cough cough* cowgirla *cough cough*

I found a little pit bull on my way to work this morning running lost in a bad neighborhood. My girlfriend and I captured him because he was about to be hit by a truck. He was so scared but he let me put him in the car. He climbed up to the top of the back seat and fell asleep against the rear windshield. I took him to work because I couldn't think of anything else to do, and the whole time I was thinking what am I going to do with him, it's so hard to adopt out pit bulls and I am moving in with my girlfriend next month and her dog-unfriendly dog, he needs medical care but I'm broke... and so on.

At work he got checked out and scanned for a chip but he didn't have a chip or tags. Someone called animal control but no one had reported him missing. He had a big giant collar like the ones that you use to chain a dog up and he was skinny and dirty. He had fleas, hookworms, and whipworms (but was heartworm negative thankfully). But other than deworming, shots, and a neuter (he has 1.5 testicles haha) he should be ok medically.

The best part is that one of the receptionists at work immediately took to him and sent a picture to her mom who she lives with. The mom said "bring him home" and so this dirty little street dog is going to live in the suburbs with a big back yard. And since his new mom works at the vet's office I know he will get all his medical needs taken care of.

My pit bull (RIP) I fostered for 6 months before giving up on finding an adopter... and this little guy found his home in 6 hours so I am so happy for him. And a little sad that he didn't come home with me but I know it is for the best.

My riding instructor organized a surprise "getting into vet school" party for me today. Most of my riding club turned out, and even those that didn't sent cards with well wishes (and cash). And riding instructor also gave me a Littmann Classic II (her equine vet recommended it) with an engraved tag on it with my name and "Love (riding instructor's name) and Coquette, 2011". 😳

I'm jelly of all the cool gifts. I'll get myself a stethy eventually, and I had to take out loans for the computer (no free iPads in my future). My vet did let me use her engraver to put my initials in my dissection tools... :d

Stethoscope was a huge surprise. Riding instructor's reasoning for getting it was she thought it was gross that I'd be using stethoscopes that had been in other people's ears.

My personal favorite is when the dog you're examining licks the stethoscope's earpieces RIGHT before you're about to put them in your ears. 😱

I was floored that she got me a steth, too - our associate Dr still has the one she was given when she went to vet school, same model as mine. Pretty much an awesome gift, and the handwritten note included with it nearly made me cry.

Another note for the rave thread: I went out last night with my coworkers - both the boss and our associate dr, office manager, and most of the rest of the staff came. We did dinner and a local comedy improv show, and went to a great little local bar afterwards. It was awesome. I am going to miss working with them so much.

Bah. Nothing like a little challenge to keep your immune system functioning well. 😉

I'm going to Nashville on Friday! For those of you near Nashville, come check out my niece play at Bluebird Cafe on Monday night.

Got my second lobe piercing done today with a hypodermic needle- feels much better compared to getting it done with a gun! I have two cartilage piercings in my right ear and would like to get an industrial in my left ear, but I don't know how vet school will see that. I would also like to get a tattoo soon- "Adelphia" in white ink, either on the inside of my wrist or somewhere on my back.

Had a Skype interview this morning at a clinic near where I'm moving to. Got offered the job on the spot. :wow:

Apparently it went well! :soexcited: Am going in right after we arrive in town to meet in person before I make a final decision. Squee!

Happy thought of the day: Today (well, yesterday, really, but we just got back into town and haven't been to bed yet) is my eight year wedding anniversary! Holy cats, are we getting old! Best part? We still sorta like each other most days. 🙂

I have been shadowing now for 3 weeks and am on cloud 9! I have been very fortunate. I'm in an overall awesome practice with great docs, awesome staff, and the doc I'm partnered with loves her job, is passionate about her career and loves to teach. We sort of knew each other prior to this as she treated one of my rescue danes before I adopted him and perhaps that's given me an advantage. The techs here are awesome, professional and have been extremely nice and willing to teach as well. Because of my years in the human medical field, doc is willing to let me do/be hands on as much as possible & legally allowed, and she seems to really appreciate being able to discuss cases with someone that already has a medical background. I am learning tons!

The downside...it makes the shifts at my current job extremely painful to go back to. Oh well, all in due time...
