I've now been officially with my boyfriend for over a year. 🙂 it's been going longer than that, but I'm still excited!

And look at this. Isn't it beautiful? You can't have a bad day with this view!

PP - I would hate you too but I'm going to TAHOE this weekend.:soexcited:

Additional rave - contact lenses! 10 pair as a trial fitting but my first in 7 months. I can finally see while doing sports again.
I guess I'm a tiny bit disenchanted with Tahoe. I live about 90 minutes away so I get to go a lot but everything is so EXPENSIVE over there!! 😱

Additional comment to your additional rave 😉 I love my contacts for very similar reasons. I HATED my glasses for working out. Only had my contacts since last August and I love them.

Pet Pony which resort are you at?

I live in CO and go skiing almost every weekend. Jealous of you being up there right now while I'm stuck at work!

Congrats on getting to a year+!!

If you think Tahoe's expensive, try Vail 😱

I haven't been skiing in a couple years so I am very stoked.

My vision is OK enough to work out but not to do point control stuff in fencing or drive a vehicle/ski very fast down a mountain. I was 100% contacts for a couple years but then I had no insurance and my script ran out.

I'm in Breckinridge. Just got done though and we're leaving tomorrow..

It's my first time in about 6 years, so it was awesome! But I have to ski with my glasses because I'm having trouble with my contacts since I got a bit nitrite in my eyes. 🙁 kind of annoying.

And thank you. Hopefully it'll be many more years. 🙂

uuugh miss snow and my snowboard SO MUCH! STOP Pet pony! Just stop it with the snow pictures and skiing raves!

Uuugh maybe I should just go to Byron for the day...

You guys are all jerks. 😉

I'm completely happy with the weather we've been having here lately (if only my allergies would stop...). Especially now that it's light out in the evenings and I can enjoy it! (Totally don't mind getting up in the dark if I can walk the dog after work with the sun still shining.) If only it would stay this way all summer instead of being in the mid-90s with 90% hummidity.

I went sky diving at Byron Bay when I was in AUS... Best experience everrrrr!

Yep, all of them.

Rave - We have a parasitology test tomorrow, and then after that, we don't have another test until March 26. That's over a week! 😀 Which means I'm going home this weekend. It'll be a flying trip, leaving Friday after class, coming back Sunday evening, but I'll get to help Mom out cleaning out Dad's house, ride my horse, see some friends, and get some much needed fish and chips and homemade pie.

My rave: Husband and I both have bronchitis, which really isn't a rave, BUT, he's decided to take the day off tomorrow, and so have I. We will be sick little monkeys together on the couch! Even though he'll still work from home, I'm looking forward to the day together!

Just got home to my sweet baby girl 😍 (she had surgery today for those who didn't know). She still has the silly droopy anesthesia boxer eyes, and she is sitting on the couch next to me right now (somewhere she is normally forbidden to be 😉). Our puppy knows something is wrong with her and is walking around protecting her and being very gentle for once. 😍 I think it's sweet that he knows and is taking care of his big sister 😍 Hoping we don't have to remove anymore cancer from me sweet baby girl :xf:

I'm so happy to hear the surgery went well and she's back at him recovery with her mom (and little brother hehe) !!🙂

Just crushed the GRE.

👍👍👍👍👍

Well played, my friend. I assume you are applying this coming cycle?? Best of luck, if so! Although, it sounds as if you might not need it. 😉

A Dog's Purpose
(from a 6-year-old).

"Being a veterinarian, I had been called to examine a ten-year-old Irish Wolfhound named Belker. The dog's owners, Ron, his wife Lisa , and their little boy Shane, were all very attached to Belker, and they were hoping for a miracle.

I examined Belker and found he was dying of cancer. I told the family we couldn't do anything for Belker, and offered to perform the euthanasia procedure for the old dog in their home.

As we made arrangements, Ron and Lisa told me they thought it would be good for six-year-old Shane to observe the procedure. They felt as though Shane might learn something from the experience.

The next day, I felt the familiar catch in my throat as Belker 's family surrounded him. Shane seemed so calm, petting the old dog for the last time, that I wondered if he understood what was going on. Within a few minutes, Belker slipped peacefully away.

The little boy seemed to accept Belker's transition without any difficulty or confusion. We sat together for a while after Belker's Death, wondering aloud about the sad fact that animal lives are shorter than human lives.
Shane, who had been listening quietly, piped up, ''I know why.''

Startled, we all turned to him. What came out of his mouth next stunned me. I'd never heard a more comforting explanation. It has changed the way I try and live.

He said,''People are born so that they can learn how to live a good life -- like loving everybody all the time and being nice, right?'' The Six-year-old continued,

''Well, dogs already know how to do that, so they don't have to stay as long.''

Live simply.

Love generously.

Care deeply.

Speak kindly.

Remember, if a dog was the teacher you would learn things like:

When loved ones come home, always run to greet them.

Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride.

Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure Ecstasy.

Take naps.

Stretch before rising.

Run, romp, and play daily.

Thrive on attention and let people touch you.

Avoid biting when a simple growl will do.

On warm days, stop to lie on your back on the grass.

On hot days, drink lots of water and lie under a shady tree.

When you're happy, dance around and wag your entire body.

Delight in the simple joy of a long walk.

Be loyal.

Never pretend to be something you're not.

If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.

When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by, and nuzzle them gently.

There comes a time in life, when you walk away from all the drama and people who create it. You surround yourself with people who make you laugh, forget the bad, and focus on the good. So, love the people who treat you right. Think good thoughts for the ones who don't. Life is too short to be anything but happy. Falling down is part of LIFE...Getting back up is LIVING...

Have a great life."

Emiloo, I'm having a bad day - actually bad week - and reading your post has made me cry (in a good way). Thank you for touching my heart by sharing that story.

Aw I'm sorry you're having a rough time. 🙁 I'm glad it made you smile 🙂. Hope things start to look up for you! 👍:luck::xf:

BUS STRIKE IS OVER!
(After like 40 days)
I was out for a drive at midnight last night and SAW BUSES LEAVING THE TERMINAL.
My bus DROVE BY MY HOUSE while I was making toast and pb.

I get to go back to volunteering.
I am not going to complain about the 2.5 hour roundtrip because I GET MY INDEPENDENCE BACK. 😀.

Also, I joined eharmony back in January for the heck of it. I joked about it with a friend after spending 6 years with two jerks and having been jerked around Christmas break with a guy I liked for 7 years. She convinced me to try it. I did. I was actually quite surprised with the amount of people who contacted me through there.

I met someone on the website.
We went out a couple of times: to the pub for a bite to eat, to the park/coffee/dinner, and yesterday we were going to go mini-golfing but the place was packed with kids on spring break, so we talked some more over tea.
Now he wants to officially take me out.
😀
I have not been able to stop thinking about this guy. He's geeky, like I am. A little older. Works in IT, plays hockey, spends time at the rink owned by his family, does a comedy podcast every Thursday with his friends and is actually very interested in my research. More importantly, he has the same views about dating I do, he is independent and really laid back and outgoing.

My past two relationships:
Mr Negative who has a crappy job because he is afraid of venturing out into the real world. He is 25, still lives at home and did not understand that poking fun at people's bodies can actually be offensive.
Then there was Mr Lazy. Spends a horrible amount of time playing video games, never leaves the house, lacks spontaneity and also does not know how to be the slightest bit romantic. He kept using the excuse "But I have never been in a relationship before so I don't know how to act". Even though we were dating for 3.5 years and I wrote out what I thought was romantic in relationships, he never tried. He never got me a birthday present the entire 3.5 years we were dating.
Then I got jerked around by jerk-face.

I am pretty happy. I like being in relationships. I like getting to know them and having fun with them.

I have to go get ready for volunteering! 😀

SO HAPPY FOR YOU TREMA!!!! That is so awesome! SO many great things going on for you! I know you have had hell with that strike! And I'm glad to hear the guy still likes you despite your big ear pimple 😉. Congrats on the new relationship forming 😍

Rave/rant

This is week has brought:
scrubbing in and assisting on 2 exploratories at the clinic
and 1 amputation at the SPCA

😍

I now have to return to my real job on the human side of things for tonight & tomorrow night. :barf:The more experience I achieve in the veterinary world, the harder it is to return to the human side. I know plenty of you don't want to hear it, but I just cannot describe how unsatisfied and completely miserable I am which is why I try to keep many comments to myself. Le sigh...

However, I never thought I would enjoy shelter medicine as much as I have been. I still don't see myself starting out in that arena, but it's totally possible I could end up there one day! 🙂

That's awesome, Trematode! The strike ending and the boy stuffs. 😀 Sometimes you find the good guys where you never expect them. (like horse shows 😉)

I was informed yesterday that I'm the leading candidate for the Hill's Territory Manager job. They are flying me to Maryland to do a ride-around with one of their leading T.M.s and I am SO excited! :soexcited:

I might finally have a back-up plan if I don't get into UTK this year. I had already decided this was my last attempt, so this job is a very real possibility for me!

That's awesome! :biglove: And I hear you on the human side of jobs. Hope you make it through your next 2 nights without too many sighs :xf:

Congrats, Trematode! Glad things are turning around. Enjoy the bus ride 🙂

We're looking at houses to buy here and we just found a beautiful house! I am so in love! And the current renters are moving out a few days before the time I want to move in. It's a great size too! You should see the master suite! A closet the size you could make two bedrooms out of it! 😀 awesome neighborhood, distance to the campus is great, etc. We're thinking about making an offer soon. I was getting tired of looking, so I am very excited now! 🙂

I drew blood for the first time!! And then one of the vets and our head tech were talking about which of their animals would be good to practice on. Love my job and everyone I work with. We've also been short-staffed and busy lately so our practice manager got pizza for everyone for lunch as a thank-you.

Plus, found out today I may get to volunteer at a zoo vet hospital. Super cool!

i always had a policy to never date hockey players, Trematode. but it's probably okay as long as he isn't a goalie. they weird.

This.

My husband is a defenseman, which is tolerable. If he were a winger, I'd be concerned. But a goalie? Aw, hell no. WAY too much time spent talking to themselves and tidying up their immediate area.
