I have a HUGE rave to share when I get home from my niece's birthday party. All of the stress I have had has just been lifted off my shoulders!!!! So grateful and happy right now!!!😀
You won the lottery so you can quit your job?

Sorry for the wait everyone! I got some good news from my sister while I was at my niece's birthday party and I was so excited I had to post something but it is hard to explain everything from a phone..

No call off waitlist, yet.....:xf:

However, I have just had the threat of not having enough money to make my deposit lifted off my shoulders. My older sister is lending me $2,000 from her tax return so I can pay my Edinburgh deposit and I am going to pay her back once I have received money from my student loans. I am so happy and so grateful. The biggest worry I have had over the past few months is gone. Completely gone. My older sister and I have had some tough times over the past couple years but deep down we still really care about each other and she is very happy to be able to help me out. I am so relieved right now.

Now I can finally start to get excited about going to vet school because I don't have to worry about being able to afford to get there. 😀😀😀😀

Wahooo!!! So glad you can start feeling a little bit relaxed now!

That's awesome! Now get excited about vet school! 😀

My mastiff is lying on top of me... why is this a rave? Because I love him and his snuggly butt 😍 even though he thinks he's the size of a yorkie. It was quite a task just to type this 🙂 ... and to continue breathing, but I refuse to make him move

I want a mastiff so bad!!!!! Instead I have a similar breed.... a dachshund.... (in her head she's the size of a mastiff lol) Though she isn't giant she has a snuggly butt and I lover her so!!! But someday I will own a mastiff!! I think my wiener needs a big/little brother!!!!

My Boxer, American Bulldog and Preso Canario both think they are lap dogs as well. Glad as least my Bearded Collie likes her space. My dogs are so adorable I can't help but love it, esp my Preso. My bully acts like the most attention-starved thing EVER though, she chipped my tooth 2 days ago trying to get as close as possible to me

I'm going in Thursday for a tooth repair for the same exact thing lol. My boxer likes her space which is strange for a boxer, but my mastiff is her exact opposite. He was also abandoned at 9 months old so that may have something to do with it 🙁

Today marks the 65th anniversary of Jackie Robison's start with the Dodgers. MLB had the great Vin Scully narrate an amazing PSA. However I can't find one to embed. Hopefully it's just the fact that I'm on my phone & I can post one in tomorrow. Until then...

Uh...

For the first time in over a month, my cat had soft but formed poop instead of projectile diarrhea :biglove::biglove::biglove:

That was the rave. Now the rant. Vet school has officially scared me into becoming an animal-ownership phobe. Y'all up there wanting mastiffs must be crazy if you ask me. Boxers, oh hellz no. Brachycephalic breeds, a resounding no. And chondrodystrophic breeds too. No more cats, especially Persians. No no no no no. It scares me just thinking about the 2 cats and 3 parrots I already have... I don't think I have the capacity to worry about any more.

But Minner!!! You will be their doctor!!!! LOL I know what you mean though..... Love LOVE my wiener but she completely wiped my savings when she ruptured 5 discs (she was seized from a puppy mill and the orthopedist said conservative tx would almost definitely not work with so many discs gone). I would never change my decision but it makes me very wary of ever owning another Dachshund!

thats how i look at animals now too! 😎

All I think about is general breed problems, even behavior problems. I won't get another Chihuahua, but I am willing to put up with Boston problems because I've had great dogs. Also none of my so far have had to have surgery to breathe! I like cats and the fiance likes cats, but I can't stand how cats in end-stage renal failure smell.

Ok so my Mastiff has a piece of pink fuzz from an old toy, the size of a quarter. It is his favorite toy. He picks it up in his mouth, throws it in the air, and then literally does a backflip onto it. It's f***ing hilarious
hahaha as I'm writing this, I just looked over and saw it laying on top of his neck on his collar. It got stuck there when he flipped over and was rolling on it! He is frantically searching for it!:laugh:

😍

My BF screams like a little girl when he watches hockey :meanie:

We have a book at the vet office I work at that lists all the common genetic health problems associated with breeds. Never, ever getting a golden. There were like 5+ pages. And now I'm convinced my corgi is going to develop degenerative myelopathy because I don't know if my mom knew about looking into to whether or not the breeder had his dog's checked for it. I'm only concerned cause he's right at the age where it develops and has some trouble with his back legs. I'm assuming it's more arthritis and cause he's pigeon toed on both hind feet. He goes in for an annual visit so hopefully we can get him some joint supplements and stuff and get him feeling a little better. I'll freak out if something more serious is going on.

:xf: for you, DM is a cruel disease

I had a cool case come in today. A cat with difficulty breathing, who on initial radiographic interpretation had a soft tissue mass in the caudal thorax (between the heart and the caudal vena cava. sent him to a referral center for further work up and surgery and it was a peritoneal-pericardial diaphragmatic hernia. so freaking cool.

so I think I'm overreacting a little bit (maybe a lot), but my mind tends to think the worse.

I'm convinced that my sheepdog has scrapie. Sheep, sheepdog, close enough, right? She's got a nibbling reflex, and rubs her sides up and down things in itchy-fits. And her hair tends to shed out in giant clumps. It's scrapie.

Coolest case I ever saw was a cat that was coughing. The owner said that he was never very playful, he slept more than the other cats, etc... Anyway, did rads and there were loops of intestine where the lung fields usually are! It was the craziest thing I've ever seen. The cat had surgery to repair the diaphragmatic hernia and once he healed, the owner reported that he was finally playing with the other cats! It's one of the cases I like to think about when school is kicking my butt. These kinds of resolutions are why I want to do this.

Yes, he is doing well at the referral clinic (got a call before I left today) and it reminded me why I am in this field.😍

We covered those in radiology. They were my favorite thing in that particular lab. Are you allowed to post the rads if you have them?

Probably not....and they are on the work computers (not connected to much of the interwebs). I took pics of the main rad on my phone though

Hooray DVMDream!

And so much awesomeness about mastiffs and cool radiographs and whatnot. I love this junk.

Pretty much

Paid off a credit card today! Wahoo!

Only one more small one to go, before I polish off my debt before vet school (minus my small previous accrued student loans).

Awesome feeling! I have a few more payments to go before mine is paid off by August too! 😍 Congrats!

I was originally hired at my local humane society as a temporary worker for summer help. The guy I trained with thought I would be able to make it a permanent position and was even helping me go over the questions usually asked in the interview for that job. Today our boss came up to me and just offered me the permanent position. Didn't ask any of the questions I worked on or anything. I didn't think I'd get a permanent position so quickly but I'm really glad that I don't have to try and find something new come September.

I decided that the bulk of my tax refund money would go to paying off bills. Really wanted to take a vacation... but oh well. Welcome to adulthood!

So as an update to my rant about bengal kittens two weeks ago, and the only good thing that came out of yesterday (also see rant thread)...

Really helps with the depression resulting from yesterday! Cuddling with her is making me feel all better. She's the loveliest kitten. She only cries a little and she lovessssss to snuggle. Sigh! I'm in love 🙂
