Me too! Beautiful course but it looks TOUGH!

heylodeb, do you event?

Not officially. Long story long, I've basically been too poor most of my life. 🙄 However, I school cross country whenever possible, jump at home, and my primary trainer is a dressage coach (and an excellent one at that). I'm really hoping to one day have a trailer so that I can enter shows and be able to go without relying on other people having space and being willing to bring us. Since I spent the last 3 years at a dressage barn there hasn't been much opportunity, obviously. I basically train as if I'm showing but never actually go.....My greenie 7 year old TB and I are going to be fantastic one day! Goal is to have a trailer sometime in the next 5 years.

I will admit that since beginning training seriously in dressage (I train seriously - skill level is still pathetic, lol) I have found that I REALLY enjoy the dressage aspect of riding. I started as a jumper and honestly feel that it takes more knowledge of your horse, better riding skill, and more brain power to ride dressage. (not that jumpers is easy - I was just surprised at how incredibly challenging dressage is!) I have the opportunity to ride a grand prix school master horse on a regular basis and boy is that motivating!!

And although a canter pirhouette is one of the coolest things I've ever felt..... Still can't beat the feeling of air time over a fence, though! 🙂

I'm thinking about starting the western version of dressage. 😉

I went to a reining demo and it was awesome. Got to try the spin and even though it was really slow (suuupperr lazy horse), it was still awesome.

I still wanna do jumpers though. Love the feeling of jumping high and going fast. Haha

I understand the financial restraints of training/showing. I'm a hunter/eq rider hoping to turn eventer with my 2 3yos. Not that I was ever the traditional hunter, but that was all I had available. And though a perfect hunter round is beautiful...it can be so boring to do inside, outside, inside, outside all day.

I love the discipline dressage requires, but there is nothing like galloping and jumping for me. So I'm bringing my 2 up the eventing route and can't wait.

petpony....I've seen some of the western dressage stuff and love it! I know some western riders that can ride the pants out of a dressage test. And I think it may do wonders to prove that a western saddle does not mean you don't train or ride "classically."

heylodeb...do you find that you have a good bit of time to ride as a vet student? I'm really, really nervous about that.

Apparently now there is actually something starting up that's called western dressage. I haven't seen it yet though. I want to do reining, because it's fast at some points but still requires control. If you spin too far, points off. If you touch the horse, points off. Spurs use too much, points off. Etc.

I wish there was an eventing mix that does jumping, cross country and reining. Hahaha.

I've never had the opportunity to sit on a reining horse, but someone once told me that if I ever got the chance, only think what I wanted to them to do. Otherwise I'd end up on my butt in the dirt. I'm pretty surprised how quickly it's started to take off internationally. Finally, people will be exporting US bred animals! And if that happens, my breeding plans will get a serious makeover. 😉

Persoally, I would love to sit on a cutting horse one day. Those animals know their jobs!

Yes, cutting would be cool too. And I'd love to try barrel racing also. Hahaa So much to do..

It is really tight. I definitely don't have time to ride everyday. My horse (who is pretty new to me) has turned out to need a LOT more saddle time than his previous owner said he did. (I think it is a matter of her being a very "sticky" rider so if she rode him 1-2x a week it wasn't a big deal because she would just sit the rodeo....I, on the other hand, do not enjoy those moments so much!!) and it is proving to be really difficult to get on him 5-6 days a week and give him the thorough work out he needs. I can manage 4 days without too much of a problem. The other BIG plus is that I rent an apartment on a very nice private horse property. If he was at another facility I don't think I'd ever be able to manage more than 4 days a week. He is literally outside my backdoor but I still have a covered arena to help with weather and for riding at 10pm when I need to.

The flip side? There is NO WAY I would survive vet school without a horse. It is the 1-2 hours a day that I completely forget that school even exists. He has brought enough challenges with him that there isn't any time for other things to filter into my brain. 😛 I normally get off feeling recharged and ready to get back to studying. Wouldn't trade the time crunch for the world.

Watching the freestyle part of the Ariat Kentucky Reining Cup now! 😍

That's exactly how I feel. You do not want to see me if I don't have horses in my life. But you are seriously lucky to live on the farm with your horse especially with a horse that requires a steady schedule. I figure I'll just had to settle for studying a bit less if I get in vet school, but I can't imagine giving up the animals that make me passionate about entering vet med in the first place.

Thanks for the honest answer!

Batman: Arkham City. See you all in about a week.

Literally just spent the night in my undergrad's very own football stadium pressbox. And got to watch the sunrise over the top of the stadium...the senior life doesn't get much better than that 😀

bought a 400 count generic bottle of zyrtec at sams for $15. that's right, a year supply of meds I have to take every day FOR $15. best. day. ever.

Monday starts finals week, and I have done ZERO studying this weekend between Rolex and the WW game.

The rave? My finals don't start until Wednesday, so it's ok!

But the WW game will still be going on during the week too...:meanie:

In all seriousness, Good Luck on your finals! :luck:

I'm telling myself I'll be able to study anyway. 😀

The official show name for my gelding has been chosen!!!

*drum roll please*

"JigJag"

(his barn name is Jag).....LOVE IT!!! So excited. It only took 3 months and someone I barely know giving me the idea. It fits him perfectly and as soon as I said it out loud I knew it was the right one. Yay!

I talked to one of my favorite professors about the schedule I'd like for next semester and he thinks it's great. Asked another one if he'd still like to be my advisor and he said he'd love to. And I found out one of my favorite vets (that I'm shadowing) is one of the professors teaching the food animal infectious disease class I'm taking instead of ochem next semester.

I'm much more excited about my new schedule and that I can breath a little next semester instead of being stressed the whole time. 🙂

My replacement starts tomorrow. Everything is getting more and more real! eeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Oh, and I was told to "keep him busy, but don't overwhelm him." Um, that is a very thin line...

Had an awesome day today.

Started with another shadowing experience with the vet I interviewed with to get an idea of how he does procedures. While I was there, I stabilized a HBC (and placed a catheter in a "shocky" vein). I also ran 2 dentals for him. At the end of the day, he told me how comfortable I had seemed today. Also asked if I would fill in for him one day this month - I am already working that day, but I sent along my schedule to see if he needs me a different day.

Decided to go bowling after lunch today for some extra practice. I got a production bonus so I was looking at the newer equipment. Eventually got to talking with my coach about what I should have as my goals for this next year. He told me that I've come such a far way from Oct/Nov that he sees a lot of potential for me, even despite my balancing work/life with bowling. He thinks I could potentially go pro if I wanted.

All of that sounds great, dyachei! Way to go! I'm waiting to see you in tv! 😉

You mean BiBimBap? Love that. Now I want some.

They called it BiBimBop where I go... I'm sure its the same thing though. I put it in this thread bc I was thinking of you while I ate it.

First the dentist, now when I eat :smack: I can't get you off my mind :eyebrow: 😉

What is this Bibbitybobbityboo that you are eating? And why do I want some without even knowing what it is....?

haha! It's delicious. It's beef (well you can get chicken or tofu also) with an egg and rice and vegetables and a yummy spicy sauce, and they bring it to your table in a really hot marble or whatever bowl that sits there and cooks while you eat it and mix it up... mmmm. I think it's Korean? At least the place I go to is Korean.

Yep, Korean. I really, really want some. Might get some on Thursday.

Have to be good this week. In fact I am going to a flexibility class tonight.

ooo that sounds like fun! I definitely enjoyed. 😍 The only flexibility training I had was in my stomach 😀

Yeah it will definitely be interesting. I feel like I am losing my flexibility. I will probably be in the class with a bunch of senior citizens, but I don't care.

Sounds like a killer day Dyachei! 😀 Do you think if you were offered a position at that clinic you would take it?

I had no idea you bowled and also had no idea there was a pro world to bowling. I guess I should have figured there was one, but never really thought about it. Prop to you! 👍

It would depend on the conditions of an offer, but yes, I probably would take it. There is a lot of opportunity there.

Pro bowling isn't something I ever really even considered - this is my hobby. I do it to de-stress after work. But its really nice to hear that it is something I could be really good at.

She's the cutest ever! I'm in love. And as long as my father isn't deathly allergic she will be all mine 😀 She's doing great. We still have no idea what caused the seizures. She hasn't had any except for that one 24 hour period. My guess is that she's just so intelligent that her brain was temporarily too big for her tiny skull. 😛

First "Rave"!
Just found out that I got an A- on my final OChem II exam! That means that if I don't bomb the final, I should get a B or B- in the class, meaning that I should not have to re-take it in the Fall!!! WOOHOO!! 😎

I removed a spleen and performed a gastropexy on a (live) pig today.

LIKE A BOSS!!!

I have a whole new appreciation for how fragile living tissue is now, though! And how skilled all the surgeons I've ever worked with are!
