Transportation strike is over, so my schedule will return to normal. Worked 7 days straight

A lot of veterinary or animal jobs have been popping up in the past few days...

So far, I have an interview at an animal shelter as an animal attendant! 😀

I'm kind of excited to start classes back up again so I can prove myself. I am going to bring up my GPA, and I am going to be a kicka** vet student.

👍👍 I'm feeling the same way!

My fabulous boyfriend is going to drive four hours out of his way on Friday to pick me up so that we can still spend the weekend together as planned! 😍

Go you! 👍

My freshman year was sort of a train wreck, so I'm in that mindset too.

I have something to rave about- there's a small zoo by my university that works with the Honors Program and I'll be able to go volunteer ALL the hours!

Just weighed myself for the first time since getting back from South Africa... dropped 10lbs while I was there, leading to 40lbs gone since the beginning of the year.

(gained tons of it first semester, but hey, still excited).

You were in South Africa? 😀

That's so neat! What were you doing there?

You're attending my IS, was it a trip for them? :0

Nope, individual thing. Worked at SANCCOB with penguins and seabirds for 6 weeks, then just did some tourist-ing. 🙂

That is so cool! I've always wondered what it would be like to do that. If I remember right, SANCCOB wants a minimum of 6 weeks from international volunteers, correct? That was one of the things that made me wonder if it would ever be feasible to do, time and money wise.

Was it awesome?

I love birds! Their behavior is really fascinating. And lucky duck- penguins are so cute!

Gulls and the like will try to peck at you if you smell like food, haha. I used to live by the ocean and I've seen them do it. Geese will too. :scared:

All birds are jerks. Some are just bigger jerks than others.

I remember distinctly while doing the mile run for 5th Grade having a guy who I didn't like get mauled by geese. He apparently was running and didn't notice a male goose who was preoccupied with food. After he kicked the goose, the whole gaggle was on him like white on rice.

I am serious... birds are deadly.

That cockatoo is like "LOLNOPE".

My friend has two of those. The guy pees on people though. ^^;

Oh. I might be PMing you. I want to do their 3 month vet internship. Did you apply around this time or later in the year?

You can apply anytime for short (like the 6week) volunteer opportunities, not sure about the longer ones though. 🙁 Definitely feel free to PM me with questions about the area and work and such, though!

My roomate bought a mini cooper. Between that and bf's miata, I officially have the most manly vehicle of the house. I am oddly proud of this.

🤣
I just RAN from my car to the house in pouring rain and awesome lightning. Let the dog out of her crate and she ran to the door. I said "you really do not want to go out there right now", put her on her chain and opened the door. She ran outside, got to the bottom of the steps and yelped and ran back inside.

Told ya! :meanie:

When its raining (or cold) out I open the door to the backyard and my older dog just looks at me with a "Are you kidding me?" look. She then just turns and walks away. The younger one still steps one or two steps outside and then looks at me to see if it's OK to come right back in.

SO's mom just got done filming with good morning America and 20/20. So excited for her!

Hopefully it will air this week.

Survived my first lion knock down today (including getting to draw blood!) AND wrestled an kangaroo. I declare this day a success!

Remember my lost passport from the Rant thread? Turned into a bit of a blessing in disguise. I took Tuesday off work and drove back to my parents house in Nova Scotia after work on Monday. Halfway through (2.5 hours from Charlottetown and 2.5 hours from home), the car starts making dragging/scraping noises and it feels/sounds like there's something loose under the car. As I'm pulling off the highway, the car lurches to the right. Freaked out, I call my mom and step-dad. We have roadside assistance, so they come and take me partway, and then step-dad and step-brother (step-brother is also my mechanic) meet me with the truck and the flatbed trailer and get me home.

On Tuesday, Mom and I go into Halifax to deal with the passport thing (new one should arrive July 23, a week before I have to go to Michigan), and Step-Dad and Step-Brother sort out my car. They found a bunch of things wrong with it (don't ask me about any of them, cars are alien technology to me). All stuff that would have gone wrong eventually, but at least this way, it's my usual mechanic dealing with it rather than me trying to deal with this alone in Charlottetown. Car is fixed now, but didn't get gone until late, so I have Mom's car for now and Mom and Step-Dad are driving mine. We'll swap probably on the weekend. So a rant turned into a minor rave!

I think I have found the perfect person to lease my horse while I'm in school! I'm very leery about leasing him out but I can't really afford him while I'm in school and selling him just isn't an option for me.

I had my job interview yesterday at a private shelter.

It was another one of those interviews where he didn't ask me any questions but spent an hour touring the shelter with me and telling me what they do.

Would it be inappropriate to send him a thank-you email? (He contacted me about the interview via email).

I have never seen a shelter that runs like that and I was very very impressed . I learned a lot and really appreciated that he told me a lot about himself.

I would always send a follow-up thank you email after an interview. Just the nice, expected thing to do.

I gushed a little bit.

I have no way of knowing how well I did. All I know is that I knew the shelter adopted out animals (unlike someone else they interviewed at some point) and I let a dog slobber all over me while wearing a dress. The last time I had an interview where I wasn't asked any questions, they didn't want to hire me because I was "quiet". I had a hard time getting things in because he was talking non stop.

I learned so much. He explained to me why the shelter was build the way it is and talked to me about the overpopulation problem in great detail. I have never gone into an interview coming out knowing significantly more than I did going in. If I don't get the job... I learned something. I'm trying to look at it that way.

Father in law had surgery on his neck yesterday to screw a plate in to stabilize a loose vertebrae and it really well. He is in a lot of pain, but no stroke or anything during surgery so we are all very relieved. Not sure how long he will be in icu, but physical therapy should be by today to make him stand and walk. So glad I was already scheduled off until sat and it is kinda cool knowing what drugs are and what they are doing for him.

Hubby kept his job through a surprise lay off today.

A gorgeous cat showed up at my family's home a couple days ago, and she's super cuddly and sweet... I'm kind of hoping we don't find a microchip when we get her checked tomorrow. Just a little. 😛
