Sticky buns. That is all.
my really tired and fired brain saw this picture and thought "thats a really ugly set of mammary glands/tumors!" :help:

i had so much fun on ambulatory rotation today! we got to play with goats, sheep, donkeys, pigs, and cows! you know you live in the caribbean when your farm sends you home with bags of tangerines, cacao pods and wax apples from their fruit trees! made the 30 minute drive back to school extra yummy in addition to the beautiful weather and fabulous scenery! 🙂

Tonight, for dinner, I ate raw broccoli and way too many salted caramels. Damn I love being an adult.

Mhmmm, salted caramels.

My rave: I got the screw out of the garbage disposal without having to take it apart!!! Apparently, the smart thing to do is just google the user manual for these things and see what it tells you. Apparently the little wrench that I used to open it enough to drain, was actually able to drop the blade (or whatever it actually does...not really sure) low enough that I was able to look down the into the drain and actually see the screw and take it out.

I created a campaign on fundmytravel.com to help pay for travel costs for my veterinary volunteer trip to Asia this summer. Just got a donation from a client who remembered me! So sweet! :soexcited:

It was such a beautiful snowy morning this morning that I don't even care that I missed my first lecture of the day because it took a half an hour to clean my car off! This is the kind of winter I love! Not that -50 windchill nonsense...

Is it not as windy up there? I'm being blown away walking to classes down in Wisconsin.

It wasn't too windy walking in this morning. Although today is colder than yesterday (I think the "feels like" temperature is -20F)
Actually it's only like -4... But it feels like -20 in our classroom right now...

Rant turned rave! I took my Dobie boy in for his dental this morning and to recheck liver values (ALT) since they were high-normal last month. I had a bad feeling when I dropped him off, but I dismissed it as just being anxious about him being under anesthesia. Vet calls me before lunch to tell me that his ALT value is off the chart. Like above-1,000-off-the-charts. I immediately assume cancer, 'cause that's how I do. Run a Chem 17 to check if the other liver enzymes are abnormal (all high) and then proceed to do an ultrasound, just to be sure. Liver is perfect (wheeeew!), but the gallbladder is enlarged--it's not emptying like it should. Start on ursodiol (which I got for free, thank goodness!), Denamarin, and Clavamox, in case there's an infection going on. Will recheck values in 3 weeks and hopefully be able to do the dental afterwards if everything is normal, since we couldn't do it today. I was SO relieved. I had been crying since the initial call. I'm very emotional when it comes to this dog...and I cried even harder when the vet told me it was the best possible scenario. My greatest fear is that he'll end up with something that is treatable, but that I can't afford...😢 So happy that today was not that day.

My sweet, sweet boy.

He's so handsome! My uncle and aunt have always had dobies, so I'm kind of partial to them.

Thank you! He's my first Doberman and my first dog that's been all mine. I got him from a breed rescue when he was a puppy (9 or 10 weeks, we think) and he's been the best dog. He's 8 now...and I don't know what I'll do when he's gone. I want to have Dobes for life, but he's set the bar SO high. I'll probably have to take a long break between him and my next.

How adorable! Look at those ears! She's still got some growing to do--so cute!!! I have to admit that I'm super biased about this breed, it's by far and away my favorite out there. I'd have a dozen of them if I could afford it, haha. And thank you for the well wishes! Luckily he's not feeling bad at all, which was why we were shocked by the high values. I've heard ursodiol is a good drug, so we shall see in 3 weeks!

My SO is a software engineer and has been out of work for a bit. In the last two days has gotten not one, but two job offers that he is considering... including one with the favourite company he interviewed with. I'm so happy for him. 😍

My recipe turned out great for the potluck last night, and when I got home I got to vidchat with a bunch my undergrad friends. And I'm leaving tomorrow for skiing with my family! 😀

I work for a park system and take care of their exotic species, including a ton of turtles. They are all really chill, and my favorite part is waxing their shells. (it actually happens!) We call the lotion "turtle lube" (haha) and they love their little massages! The turtles even participate in "turtle parties", where children in park programs get to handle and learn about the turtles during their birthday parties. Sure beats any parties I ever had. Best job ever! 🙂

I'm sure it's partially the endorphins talking, but after a miserable, horrible bad-bad test and an hour and half talk on brucellosis, spending an hour working out on a lyra/trapeze was the best decision I've made all week. I can already feel the bruises forming. 😀

Did my first solo emergency surgery today. Ex-lap to dig out a .22 from a dog's abdomen with multiple holes in the intestines. Just checked on her via webcam and she is standing up, barking her little head off and driving the cat in the cage next to her bonkers. I diagnosed her, came up with the anes protocol and pain management/antibiotic plan, so basically got to play doctor from start to finish. Such a good feeling. Maybe I am sort of ready to graduate.

Just got home from a wonderful Internship opportunity for this summer. It is at a Wildlife Rehab. They let me help weigh some geese and my interviewer showed me the Wild Turkeys they had. Unfortunately they had to euthanize them because their back legs where dislocated and had torn tendons.

But I am really excited! Just within the hour I was there I learned a lot and had fun. :soexcited:

Just got off the phone with the contact person for UTK admissions, and my 3 credit Biochemistry class DOES count for their 4 credit pre-req. Which means that UTK's spot on my list of places I'll be applying to in the fall is officially sealed!

Placed a tomcat catheter today for the first time :-D! Bring on the blocked cats!

This is a very small rave, but I inserted an endotracheal tube for the second time ever today! It went right in (granted we used lidocaine). It feels so good to do something right and have two vets you really look up to act enthusiastic about it.

Getting two amazing externship opportunities instead of the one I was just hoping for on the lucky contact of a friend. I am so. freaking. excited I could almost cry.
2 better things instead of one? Ultimate win 😀 What externships are they?

Officially booked venue and photographer, plus ordered invitations. Three less things to worry about, and all awesome.

The doctor/owner of the vet clinic I shadow at just called me today to tell me a kennel tech position just opened up and encouraged me to apply! It would be really nice actually getting paid to clean cages, vomit, etc. 😀

Additional rave: my bf is coming up to visit next week and I just snagged tickets for us to go see PostSecret Live together! So excited! :soexcited:

Can someone please explain what this is? This is the second time I've heard about it today.

My long term foster dog, whom I have had over 6 months is going on a trial. I am so happy but soooooo soo sad. =(

Have you heard of PostSecret? (postsecret.com) It's a website in which people from all over send in anonymous postcards with secrets on them and the creator of it posts some postcards online every Sunday. I haven't been to a live event but I'm pretty sure they share additional secrets and tell some of the stories behind them.

I haven't been to a live event but I'm pretty sure they share additional secrets and tell some of the stories behind them.

And the creator, Frank Warren, does these tours where he shows secrets that were banned from the books he published, talks about best/most powerful secrets he's seen, invites people to come onstage and share their own secrets, etc. Supposed to be very cool and eye opening. He was at my undergrad about six years ago now, but I didn't really know what PostSecret was then and I missed the show, and about a year later I was kicking myself for it. So I'm thrilled that I'm getting a chance to see it.

Although it seems like it's not as popular in Canada. I had to talk to several people to figure out where to pick up the tickets, and none of them seemed to know what it was.

I get to see a polar bear get anesthetized/examined tomorrow! I don't even care that it's hell week and it means I'm missing two lectures for a class with an exam on friday (third of three this week...), and that I won't have time to prep for anatomy lab... I'm finally starting to embrace the whole "there are things more important than getting As on exams" concept, and it's awesome. Of course, my general lackadaisical attitude towards studying lately may have something to do with that too...

Disaster preparedness conference went off without a hitch yesterday! So many months of planning by our club, all came together, and we had some great feedback from the attendees. Finished up the day with fish and chips (and beer) with two very cool vets who were speakers at the conference. And then I slept in this morning. Over all, a successful weekend.

Brag: My Beamer boy got his Rally Excellent title today with three straight Q's this weekend! Now onto our RAE!
