What is the best way to approach the reading section??

Maybe read the passage first, then go through the questions?

Or, go through the questions first and one by one answer it by skimming throught the passage?

Or maybe another way?

For me, the best way was to read the full passage, quickly. Instead of actually comprehending the material I just remember which paragraph I read that piece of information in. I have taken the DAT twice and both time this method was effective... for me. I had enough time to check every answer before entering my final choice. To me, this is the best way.

Everyone probably does better using different methods than other people.

Practice and more practice definitely helps. Time should be a concern in this section...if you get stuck here and there with a few questions you can move on and with enough time you can go back to select better. Its always difficult when you feel rushed at first.

On my test I would read the first question then keep that in my head as I quickly read the passage, once I hit the answer I would mark it and go onto the next question then continue reading from where I was. After I got through the passage I had a pretty good feel of where the answers were on the following questions...as long as they weren't conceptual. hope that helps.

I used a bunch of different method then finally converged onto a method that worked for me best.

If I'm familar with the content of the passage (e.g something relatively easy like, diabetes and insulin) then I'll maybe read the first paragraph at most and then read all the questions. THen I'll go through the passage about 3 paragraphs at a time answers all the questions I can after each set of 3 and then also refreshing myself of the questions that I couldn't answer at that time.

If I'm not familar with the passage (e.g , then I'll read half of it just to get a familarity. The main thing is to get a familarity with the passage before I read the questions otherwise the questions are just gibberish and I won't remember than going into the passage

If I read the whole passage I find I forget a lot and still have to go back and look for details.
