Hi ppl, I'm freaking out LITERALLY. My test is in 6 days and i'm getting 15 in RC (bootcamp). English is my second language. I just can't read the whole thing and answer the questions. I spent 28 mins in one passage in the last test I took..... I just don't know what strategy to implement, cause this RC test is really way different that all the reading exams I've taken in the past. All those statement and reason questions are killing me :bang::bang::bang::bang::bang Please any advise will be greatly appreciated!!! I've been thinking to postpone my exam because of this section....I'm getting 20's in science, 17-19's and even 20's now in PAT but RC is killing me.....and RC is not something that u read scientific papers and you'll become good at it....my problem is the time,,,i'm really a slow reader 😡😡😡 :boom:

English is my second language as well. Have you tried search and destroy method?

Yes and it's a mess...There are some questions that the statement is in paragraph 2 and the reason in par 7 and sometimes both wrong 🙁 I think that I will do the same thing I'm gonna do for PAT...I will focus only in 2 passages...try to have all the questions right and just mark random answers for the harder passage...i can't think of anything else.... 🙁

I have never posted my RC method, because frankly it's not even a real method. But it landed me a 22 (Thank God) so it's not complete bull I guess. It's up to you if it makes sense and you want to try it out for one test and see how it works.

So when I got to the RC, I literally SKIMMED the reading (legit SKIM, not focusing on ANY details). I just wanted to look to make sure I saw like KEY words somewhere. That took me maybe 1 minute TOPS.

THEN, I read every question. FOR EXAMPLE (no this was NOT on my DAT), if the question asked me about Halley's Comet and how many times did it appear, I would quickly scroll to see ANY place that Halley's comet appeared in the passage, or specific years.
If the question asked me "who contributed to "blah blah" theory" I would FIND the place where the theory was mentioned and look around it for the answer.

Shockingly, this worked for me. I had 10 minutes to spare on my actual exam.

Crucial about this method (that I noticed) is that you CANNOT spend a lot of time. If you can't find the answer easily in about 1:30 you need to move on. Some questions you will find in like 25 seconds, some take a little longer. But by quickly skimming, you can assure to get 38-41 questions right and then can spend a little more time on the harder ones.

THIS ONLY WORKED FOR ME. I don't think I have read ANY posts on some weird method like this.

Try it? If you need me to elaborate more, you can just reply here, and I can just answer questions on thid thread.. maybe it can help others IF they want to try it.

that's exactly what I do too. haha. Throughout my test, I was wanting to hit "ctrl F". If only it were that simple. haha.

Hey guys I took my DAT yesterday and my strategy worked perfectly. I'm very happy with my 18 in RC!! I chose the 2 passages that seemed easier to me and spent 30 mins on each of them. Needless to say I was almost 100% sure that I got all those questions right...for the last passage I just marked A and B for all the answers LOL But It worked!!! I got why I wanted to get!!! 🙂

congrats man, the first time I took DAT in 2008 I made a 15 on this section. I had some crazy ethics passage. But since then I picked up reading as a hobby and started reading novels. Now I have no problem finishing all passages with ease.
