Hey guys- this thread is a few weeks old lol....i took the dat like 2-3 weeks ago hahahah!

--------------------------------

Hello everyone!

I am taking the DAT in the morning and was wondering if anyone had any tips or strategies for the Reading Comprehension and Perceptual Ability Tests...

Did you actually read the articles or just skim/scan to find the answers to your questions?!

Is the test anything similar (or way harder) than the sample test provided by the ADA?

Thanks for your help everyone, I would greatly appreciate a sincere response!

Thank you!

Most people don't read. Some do skim/scan, some do scan without skimming, some write 1-2 words down for each paragraph/scan.

For PAT, check out tic-tac-toe method for hole punches if you don't know it yet. Search for it. With this method, you can get all of hole punch questions easily.

For the RC part, I'd definitely recommend skimming over the passage first, just to get a general idea of what the topic(s) are. Then go straight to the questions. I took my DAT Saturday and this worked wonderfully. I finished in 20 minutes with a 27 (99.6 percentile). 😎 I'm still mad about the one question I missed...I thought I'd gotten them all right. 😡 Anyway....I think there might be some passages, like piano, for instance, that this method doesn't work as well on.

As far as the PAT goes, make sure you pace yourself well. I spent too much time on TFE and hole-punching and ended up short on time and had to speed through pattern folding in about 4 minutes. 😱 I tried the tic-tac-toe method for hole-punching and while it helped bring my score up in that section, it ultimately screwed up my pattern folding score since I was short on time and had to guess quickly. If you decide to use this method, make sure that you have had lots of practice and can be fast with it. Also, I'd recommend while the tutorial is going at the beginning, draw out on one of your sheets several tic-tac-toe grids and areas to do cube-counting as well. Just practice as much as you can. I bought Crack DAT PAT (10 test version) and I will tell you that there were at least a few problems on the real DAT that were EXACTLY the same as CDP. It was cool, too, because I'd just done those problems the day before, so I immediately recognized them!

Good luck!!! :xf:
