Some people tell me not to follow the kaplan method of writting the words and reading the passage first, however some people tell me its better to read the questions first, I really didnt start that section and I only have two months to study, so who should I belive so I can start practicing???

seeing how you have 2 months...pick one and try it. if it doesn't work that well, try the other one. you'll be fine...just practice SOMETHING

You can always combine both as well.

As for me, I try to get a feel for the passage before I decide which method to use. For example, if the passage is more factually bassed, I would do the skim and search method instead of actually trying to understand the whole thing.

When I headed in to take my DAT I was going to use the Kaplan method for the RC section, but once I came to it I realized that it wasn't realistic. If your test center is like mine was, then you get two plastic sheets and an erasable marker for your "scratch paper." This makes it pretty difficult to write out all the key terms like Kaplan suggests. So what I did was just write out the main idea of each paragraph within a given passage, and used this to guide me through the questions. You could read the questions prior to reading the passage, but remember that the time flies by. It's best to answer and go back to a question, than to run out of time and leave unanswered ones. This method worked for me as I improved significantly compared to the previous practice tests I took. Give it a try. Good luck.

I am having problems with this section as well...I was looking at some of the old posts and most of people who scored more than 25 had used the trick of just skimming thru the paragraph first (3-4 min) and then go about hunting for the answers. I don't see why I should miss this section and get a low score...so i am going to give it my best shot using this method. I have tried Kaplan method once and I am not going to take my chances again...the drawbacks: 1) I ran out of time, 2) not enough room on the plastic laminated sheets to jot down all the words, and 3) completely tense and lost before hitting the intense math section!!!

I've tried the Kaplan method myself and I didn't have time to go through the last passage. On their practice tests I got the same score doing it there way (didn't get to last passage) and rushing through their way and guessing on the last section. I really think it's flawed and after taking the course I think they need to change a few things. I don't like how half the stuff is old MCAT stuff. At least take out the MCAT words.
