RDEP - At Large program?

Hey, I didn't get into Creighton through the RDEP program but I got a letter in the mail about the RDEP At Large program...

...and am seriously considering it. Anybody else from Utah get this? What do you guys think about it?

I am thinking about it as well. The problem is that you need to return to Utah to practice for it to be beneficial. I'm not sure I want to come back to Utah to practice seeing as though I could probably make more in another area where the need for dentists is greater. I might be willing to come back to Utah to work as an associate for a couple of years, in which case the RDEP at large would be beneficial. The $18,000/year reimbursement from the state would definitely be nice.

I would like to come back to Utah. I'd at least not might coming back for 4 years if I were to move. I'm going to fill out my application but I will not submit until I hear back from either UNLV or VCU.

I am thinking about applying, but I just really don't think I will end up practicing in Utah. I really like living here now, but any part I would want to live in is already so saturated with dentists that I think it would be not worth the difficulty to try and establish myself. I sure could use that 18 grand a year though, that would pay my loans for 6 months out of the year... I really don't know what I'm gonna do!!

Interesting side note. I just got another random call from Dr. Powell asking if I was still interested in going to Creighton through RDEP. He told me they have 2 spots left and that if I am picked for one of those spots I should hear something by the end of this week. We'll see how that goes!

I got a letter about it. I don't think I am going to do it, since I am going to change my residency after my first year I am only eligible for one year of the cash. You are only qualified for each year you pay out of state tuition. Something to take into consideration if you are going to try and change your residency status at your school

If you get one of those spots ,does that mean the seat you're reserving at VCU will open up! If so, I would definitely go for the RDEP program!

At this point I'm not sure what I'll do. Since I don't plan on returning to Utah, the RDEP reimbursement will not benefit me that much. I went through the numbers last night and found that the cost will be almost identical between VCU and Creighton with Creighton's discounted first year at the U of U. The problem is that I just like VCU better. If it will cost me the same amount I will go to the school I like better. Right now I'm leaning towards keeping my VCU spot even if I do get into Creighton. If I did get in I would, of course, do more research to make sure I'm doing the right thing though.
