Haven’t heard anything back this cycle (I shouldn’t have applied with my old app) and looking for some help to reapply.

Current stats:

3.55 cGPA

3.55 sGPA (freshman: 3.1, soph: 3.5, jun: 3.5, senior: 3.9)

508 MCAT (127/122/128/131)


100 hours Clinical volunteering (50 hospital, 50 flu clinic)

50 hours Non Clinical Volunteering

50 hours physician shadowing (20 hours primary care)

1000 hours research

-2nd author publication

-2nd author international poster presentation (did not present)

Vice President of a science club (3 semesters)


My main concerns are the MCAT (cars section) and clinical hours, and whether I should apply again this coming cycle or not. I am graduating this spring and have a clinical job lined up for after graduation, which will add a lot of clinical hours/ experience to my app. I also plan on continuing with non clinical volunteering. I am also retaking the MCAT in June, which would still allow me to submit a primary app in August (aiming for 515).


My question is.. Is my app ok to currently send in (assuming MCAT bumps up to ~515) and then send in updates during the cycle with the new clinical job and volunteering? Or should I wait until after the gap year to include it all in my primary.


Also, would a post bacc benefit me with my upward trend? 24 credits post bacc would put me at ~3.65 gpa.

EC hours are weak. Like close to lethally weak. A single great year of UG isn't likely to be of much help. I suggest a post-bac or SMP.

Applying without your new score, and thinking that you're going to get a 515 is frankly, foolish. You should apply when you have the best possible app, even if it means sitting out an app cycle.

You also need DO schools on your list. Beggars can't be choosy.

Even with a 515 your ECs do not show schools you want to be a physician. Take a year off and get clinical experience.
