Hello future dentists,

I am currently in the process of re-applying. Last cycle, I decided to apply very late (deadline status in December) to see if I could get a last-minute interview and, obviously, was rejected by the 9 schools I applied to. Fortunately for me, I was mindful enough to ask for LOEs from professors that I did not know too well in order to save them for this cycle. Does anyone know if I have a lower chance as a re-applicant and what I should do in my off year? I only have a UNLV sim course, some community college courses, working as a dental assistant, and volunteering at a dental clinic planned. Also, some generals stats: 3.2 GPA at UC Berkeley and AA:23/PAT:26.

You were turned down this cycle because your application was excessively late. Your qualifications are good, if you apply early I'm sure you will hear back from schools this upcoming cycle. Reapplicants are generally looked upon more favorably...it shows you're not giving up and that you are adamant about pursuing your dream.

Thanks for the encouragement, guys. Do you know if taking Chem 1B at a community college would be okay? Chem 1A at Cal is supposed to have covered both semesters of chemistry, but I'm hearing that Chem 1B is required for some schools. Should I take this class, as well as other upper-div science courses, at a UC, or would a community college be fine?

I think it depends on when you graduated. At my ucla interview, noemi told me that since I had graduated last summer, I didn't need to take chem 1b, since they've just recently changed their requirements for berkeley students. I wasn't questioned about it at any of the other interviews though. Just to be on the safe side, I suggest calling the schools you're interested in and explain the situation we have at berkeley. Most schools will know how the setup works at cal, and if they still want you to take the 2nd half, ask them if its alright to take it at a community college. It might be an issue though, since most schools don't like classes taken at cc's, esp Tufts.

I took it at my community college. Most of the schools were fine with it.

Thanks for the advice, Mr. CalDent. And congrats on getting into DS; I saw that you got in another thread. Are you MCB? And GO BEARS!

OP:

You'll be filling in your application in like 3 months already, interviewing in 5 months and waiting to get your acceptance in 6 months. With your stats, you'll get in a decent school, unless you interview like a doorknob.

So my advice to you is do all those things you mentioned, and, once you interview everywhere, CHILL. 👍

....seriously....chill, cause the next 4 yrs will be a class A butt rape...(I'm allowed to say butt rape on here, right?)

Saying butt r@pe should be allowed to describe the amount of work you're going through. Did you take a year off too?
