Hello Everyone,

I have applied to Dental school the past two cycles, and I with my GPA (3.35), and Science GPA (3.25) -- C's in both ochems, 18AA, applied early August, 50 hrs shadowing dentist (50 more hrs shadowing other Dr's). No interviews. I want to do anything I can to get better. I have arrived at the idea of applying for a masters program, and I am interested in a MBA or Healthcare Admin Masters. Two reasons for these choices are:
1) my school will admit me with my undergrad gpa without GRE, GMAT, which allows me more time to study for DAT 🙂 (just got Chad's videos)
2) Cost/its available at nearby state university at a reasonable cost.

Grades from these programs wouldn't be available until after I have applied again for dental school, but I just want to know if any of you think this would be beneficial to me. Anyone know of a moderately priced Masters in-state for Texas?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated,
Greg

Thanks for the quick reply. I am primarily considering these due to the fact that they do not require an entrance exam (GRE/GMAT), and so I can concentrate on studying for the DAT. I feel like I do have some chance at an interview with a much improved DAT, so I would like to focus on improving that, while also completing a masters for the next next cycle.

If I am way off base with the expectation that I might have a chance for interview/admission next cycle then I would focus on the GRE and do a science masters program/or whatever y'all may recommend. Many thanks 🙂

I'm telling you what really looks best! But it is up to you...some programs will take the DAT instead.. But your stats are not terrible, so you may not need to do any program. A post-bacc and 21+ on DAT may get you in..GL

I think any one of those masters (MBA or HMA) sound pretty cool! It'll definitely be different than what most students come in with, and I think it also might help you tackle dentistry from a different angle. Plus, as you said, it's cheaper and will give you more time to study for the DAT, so you just have to ensure A's in all of those courses! You can do an Academic Update after fall semester and provide the grades for that semester, which will also boost your GPA. Good luck 🙂
