Hey guys so as the title states I'm a reapplicant this cycle (still waitlisted at NYCOM so fingers crossed) but my stats are a 3.4cgpa and a 26MCAT (9-8-9). I know that my biggest downfall applying last cycle was my low MCAT and the fact that I applied to mostly MCAT heavy schools. My question for you guys is when should I re-take my MCAT if I want to apply for this cycle? I won't be ready till at least mid-August and I was wondering if you guys thought that was too late? I was planning on submitting my primary app and my original MCAT score of a 26 so that my application is verified and then sending in my updated new MCAT score once I get it back. I would appreciate any feedback you guys have. Thanks!

That sounds good to me. Just let the admissions offices know that you have scores pending. What schools did you apply to, and do you need to stay in a specific region? I would definitely apply more broadly. It sounds like You tried being a little picky, so this time go for as many as you are comfortable with.
I applied pretty broadly this last cycle, and it has worked out well.

If you're dead set on NYCOM, retake the MCAT if you really think you can improve that score. If you are open to going other places, I don't know I would risk getting a lower MCAT because with broad application, you should get some love. If you decide to retake the MCAT, your new scores would be ready in time to be considered. I don't think any DO school would screen out a 26.

Yea I was really picky. I only applied to schools in NY, NJ, VA, and PA . I didn't realize they were the more MCAT heavy schools. I would prefer to stay in that region which is why I'm wanting to do a retake. However this time I will also be applying to schools in the Midwest!

it is amazing how in one thread someone with a 3.1 sci GPA and 24 just posted their acceptance while someone with a 3.4 and 26 in another is asking for advice on reapplying. The big difference between the two? School selection.
