Please help me with any advice/insight you can provide on how to best improve my medical school application before re-applying. I have included a summary of my stats/experiences below.
MCAT: 31R (10VR/10PS/11BS)
GPA: 3.22 Double major in Biology-Economics at UNC Chapel Hill (I think this is the main reason, but I'm not sure if post-bac, masters, or special masters would be the best option)
Volunteer: 250 hours of one-on-one mentoring children with autism, Alphi Phi Omega Service Fraternity member junior and senior year.
Research: In undergrad I conducted a small research project which focused on the anti-competitive and anti-trust effects of microeconomic theory on the pharmaceutical industry. I also now work full-time in the clinical research industry. At my current position I remotely manage clinical trial sites throughout North America and have gained valuable insight into the new drug trial/approval process frequently interacting and even sometimes training doctors on new protocol amendments via teleconference. I only have a year of experience in this field, but I am curious if it would be better to continue gaining experience this way or stop working to focus on improving my GPA (all helpful thoughts are appreciated).
Clinical Experience: I have shadowed one doctor for a few days and plan on shadowing another (in a different specialty soon). I also currently work part-time at a facility for autistic adults where I perform a role similar to that of a Certified Nurse Aide. (I am also a Certified Nurse Aide).
Unique: During my sophomore year I had some difficulty in Physics classes, getting a C- and a C in both which hurt my GPA. I also started my own new pool management business during this year which took up much of my time as I worked a lot while in school.
Thank you for your time and thoughts in helping me develop a strategy for re-applying. All help is appreciated.
