Hi, I'm a re-applicant and I was just wondering if other re-applicants are having better luck with interviews this time around.

Last year I had 2 interviews, with Midwestern and NOVA (my #1 choice), and this year I haven't heard a thing from Midwestern, but I have interviews with USC and NOVA.

How's everyone else doing? What did you guys do to improve?

so you've gotten two interviews but didnt get any acceptance? did your interview not work out? why do u think u didnt get acceptance?

yeah, I think I was too nervous in my first interview at Midwestern, and at NOVA my interviewing skills weren't really polished and I didn't get my point across well enough. But I've really worked on my interviewing skills this last year so I feel really prepared 🙂

last year i interview pre dec at maryland and post dec at temple. didnt get in either one. i have an interview at umdnj friday though. i agree about the nervous part. i dont think i preformed well at my md interview. and with temple it was just too late. improved my dat scores too so hopefully i will get more invites. just took the test on sept. 16. good luck!

so im wondering how bad you have to do on the interview to not get acceptance. when you guys say you guys were nervous, did you guys studder? like can u give examples of what you guys think caused to not get acceptance? I have no clue how ready i am for interviews since i have nothing to compare with. i would appreciate it if u guys answer. thanks

That's great, good luck at New Jersey..I hope we all get in!

Naw man, i mean, it wasn't THAT bad. I think at Midwestern I had to have him repeat a question, and some of my answers weren't as eloquent and concise as I wanted them to be. I also don't think I prepared well enough for the interview though. I think some people are naturals, and have a lot of job interview experience, etc. But I barely had any job interview experience, so I wasn't as refined.

And you don't have to bomb an interview to not get accepted. There's a lot of really really talented and highly qualified applicants, so it's really competitive.

you will always look for an explanation for why you were rejected from anywhere, a job or dental school or whatever. My dat scores weren't as competitive last year and in hindsight i could have had more to say at my interview and could have been more involved (asking questions). true though some people are just more self confident. things will be different this time around!!!

I'm a re-applicant, last cycle I applied late, heard nothing. I got everything in earlier this year and have 1 interview so far. Good luck everyone👍

I am a re-applicant as well. Last year I had one interview (and did not get in) and this year I have one interview (w/ Nova -- which is also one of my top choices). I didn't get an interview with Nova last year so I am pretty excited about it 🙂

Last year I submitted my AADSAS application on August 9th but had to wait on one of my letters until September 2nd. This put a huge delay on my application and I started out behind the curve.

I had one interview last year at UW, where I did my undergrad. I'm also a WA resident.

This year I have five interviews scheduled (ASDOH, USC, Midwestern AZ, UNLV, Case). I hope to get an interview at UW as well. This year has been much more promising and I've been able to stay optimistic.

During the last year I completed my degree, obtained a wealth of additional dental experience, and continued learning a foreign language (to be used in practice one day, which I know will be yeearrrrs away). Honestly, I do feel better prepared this year and more knowledgeable about the field.

Good luck to all the reapplicants!

I'm a reapplicant also. I had one interview last year and it was alright but I applied late. This year i have 3 so far. Hopefully one of them likes me!!!

Nice! NOVA is great, I think you really like it. Dr. Lippman is really nice and the interview is really relaxed. When is your interview?

This is my third time applying, I had one interview in both previous cycles (at the same state school), but this time I've completed a masters and raised my dat scores and already have 4 interviews (one down, 2 pre-december, and NOVA post-dec)

and can someone please explain to me why everyone is obsessed with Nova and says its their top choice?

Nice, I'm sure you'll get in this year, especially with 4 interviews and the experience from the last 2 cycles.

The reason I like NOVA is really a combination of the attitude of the student body and location. Curriculum and clinical experience aside, every single student I have met has gone way out of their way to help me out. And I've visited the campus and interacted with the students twice now, and it might just be me though, but I feel like I fit in there. I'm from So. Cali, and there is very much a Socal vibe at NOVA, really laid back, close to the beach, large Hispanic population, etc.

Last year I had zero interviews.... so far this round I had one. Interviewed @ Western on Saturday! I was so nervous, just keeping my fingers crossed now!

yo best of luck snaggle! dont trip, you got this.

anyway, big pat on the back to the re-apps, as i am one too. It's a tough road, but as a wise person once told me, "the harder you work, the more good luck you will get!".

respect for y'all.

:highfive:

I actually met Dr. Lippman already and he sure is nice. My interview is on Novemeber 10th. How about yours?

Nova is one of my top choices because I am a FL resident and I live like, 30 minutes away from Nova. So attending Nova would allow me to live at home still. Plus, I have a sibling who is currently attending Nova for dental school. 🙂

Cool! Mine is Oct 28..good luck!

I was a late applicant last year and had one interview (in Jan) and was placed on the wait list. This year I applied early-ish, have completed my Masters and raised my DAT score. Zero interviews so far.

where else have you applied? (you and I seem to be in the same boat)...

I am a re-applicant! applied last cycle to 10 schools* not one interview but my app was in late august and my LORs got held up until october so that's prob why .. lol

This year I already have 2! UMDNJ next friday and NYU the week after so hopefully i'll do well on the interviews! (and get a few more 😉 hah

When date did you submit your AADSAS?

better question: when was you guys' applications fully complete? alota schools won't look at it until they have all your letters and new scores, etc. For me I retook my DAT in early august and AADSAS didnt update it till August 25th, so I figure I'm not at the top of the pile for those schools, the 3 of the 4 interviews I did get were either before I re-took my DAT or schools I was able to fax my scores to, so be patient! Waiting is the hardest part but I'm hopin we hear things in the next few weeks...

Also a re-applicant. So far so good!

Last year took my DAT mid august and didn't score to well but had already submitted my app in July. Applied to 8 schools and had 0 interviews.

Took my DAT again mid august with a mail date 9/10. Stats below are much improved over last DAT. My GPA is holding me back, however.

DAT: AA 21 TS 21 PAT 23
oGPA 3.2 sGPA 3.47

Interviews
Creighton: 10/26
Midwestern, AZ: 12/14

Under Review
Oregon
Nebraska
Colorado
ASDOH

My AADSAS mailing date was 7/16, but my last LOE wasn't mailed until 8/6. Otherwise I had everything else up-to-date.

Yes, I'm really hopeful we'll all hear some good news concerning interview invites in the next few weeks.

Thanks. You wouldn't believe how excited I was when I was handed the results. I felt good about the test but I couldn't be certain until I saw it myself. If I don't get accepted this year I may have to re-take and go for 25's across the board. Then maybe adcomms will see past my gpa.

I think you're fine. I think that if you got an interview your stats are up to par with what they are looking for. I don't know if you've interviewed for dental school sometime in the past, but just make sure you prepare and practice a lot, and present yourself professionally and convey to them that you really know what you're getting yourself into with dentistry and that you really want to do it. And you'll be set 🙂

how did your interview go snaggletoof? I don't know about you, but I feel WAY more stressed out now then I did before. I just keep thinking about the questions and how I should have answered them.... arg!

i honestly feel that it went really well. i wasn't really nervous and i think i had solid answers for all questions. :xf: thanks for asking kbeljean, good luck

Hey, I am also reapplicant.
I am spending gloomy day, waiting to death for interview.
So far, I applied 14 schools including USC where I got one interview last year. I just retook my dat 21/21/24. Only my concern is RC which I had 16. I really need to hear from schools where I applied!!!!!!
