hey all.
so i matched advanced neuro and still at this point no med prelim, so hoping for best, still searching trying, but preparing for the worse...just in case.

anyhow, was wondering, for anyone that maybe had to go through this,
as for the LORs...im not sure it will be possible for me to re-contact the docs who wrote them for me, and get them updated and signed in blue ink again. i do have copies of ones that were sent in for last season, and will most likely have to reuse those. any opinion on how that may effect invites for intervies etc?
now if this will be the case, i will try to obtain some sort of work/research and perhaps get a letter from them before sept, if possible.

also, any opinion on if the same programs you interviewed with invite you a second time around?
how about the advanced program i matched with, i believe you must go through interview process again if no prelim secured in time, but any opinion on if they would want to deal with me again (given my prelim issue this yr).

anywho, any input, suggestions, opinions, will be greatly appreciated!!!!
Thank You bunches

hey. thank you for your msg. it seems that prelim med is only way to go. possibly transitional if they allow for 6-8 months of IM. i did try to contact few prelim surg, and they were not having it, when i explained the requirements, so i gave up on that idea.

so still searching for prelim med....hopeing...praying...

Would the neuro program accept a psych internship? They might because it includes a few months of both IM and neuro.

hmmm, perhaps...thanks for the idea...
do you by any chance know of any openings in psych internship field...?

I know that you are not allowed to do too many months of neuro. Also, are there just preliminary psych programs? Or, would one have to break a residency contract to accomplish this?

No, there is no 1 year internship in psych.
I am pretty sure a neuro internship needs to have six months of IM so the first year of a psych program probably would not qualify (only 4 months of IM).
I think your best bet is to make sure the neuro program you matched with is aware of your problem and see if they can pull any strings for you to get a spot somewhere. If not, ask them what they would want you to do in reapplying next year.
Good luck. I hope something works out for you!

thank you bunches for your reply....will keep trying.

I agree with peppy,
I believe you can't use a psych intern year, because you must have 6 months of IM during your internship.

OP, I believe that now is the time to be straight up and honest with the neuro program you matched into. I know you are probably worried they will drop you, but now you are at the point of desperation. Neuro PD's have been known to create internships for people, or he/she might be able to pull strings to get you one some place else. But now we are getting down to the wire...if you wait 2-4 more weeks before telling them, they will HAVE to withdraw your match contract, because they can't let you work as a PGY2 when you haven't done an intern year.

hey. unfortunately for me, ive been in touch with my PD from the start hoping they would be able to help out. was told that they were trying, however, now it's almost june, and still no success. ive made it my job to call/email and search programs to the point im close to going cookoo.
ill keep on....praying....
but have to start preparing for the worst at the same time i suppose and the dorn re-application process in sept....ahhhhh

I'm in the opposite situation. I was able to get a prelim spot, but no advanced spot. I'm interested to see how your situation pans out, so keep us posted. Hopefully with the new scramble they're trying to implement things like this won't be a problem for future grads. I personally think the system is terrible. I wish you luck on finding a spot.
