Re-take November?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
You got similar scores as my fiancé did last year. She had a similar gpa as you, but it was like .1 or so higher. She got one interview with an instate school, but did not get in. She retook the test last week and scored a 23AA and 24TS. It is funny, cause she said the first test she got was like 100x harder than the one she got this time around. It seems like they say that the DAT is standardized, but some of the tests are def harder than others.

Yes, its sad. But I think I'm prepared to wait another year. I've already submitted my applications, and paid, so I'm just going to wait and see for now.

I know a couple people from my school with similar stats to mine that did not get in anywhere and had to re-take their DAT.

My in-state school is UCONN, but their average DAT is 20. They also require a 3.2 science GPA for initial screening, so I'm not sure I'm going to make it past their filter 🙁🙁

Just wait and see what happens. You might get lucky. I would just prepare a bit more for the DAT - like know everything cold. With a bit of luck, you should be able to knock the test out of the park. Also, continue taking classes to bring up your gpa and become involved in dental activities. This will help you big time next cycle.

UConn is a bit hard to get into. I am applying there this cycle, but it will depend on my DAT. I am taking it on the 24th and hope that I do not get the piano version of the test. From what people have mentioned, there is a picture of a plant and it points to a part of it and asks what that plant part is. I guess if I get that question, I will just get up and leave. Jk. Lol

I had zero plant questions on my version of the test and no graphs to label. I was sort of disappointed because I spent so much time studying plants. My test was about 70% molecular bio and genetics.

Wow. Did you read through ch 19-21 of the Campbell's bio book? I think that one covers a lot of the genetics stuff. However, it seems like the bio sections are really random. I am focusing on destroying the chem and ochem sections and just doing as much as I can by reviewing for bio from ap bio, kaplan, and campbell's. Someone posted that they had questions in the bio section that were not even in the campbell's book!

According to ADA guide, Boston GPA for 2009 class was 3.11 and 19 for DAT. You will definitely get accepted there.

OP's not DEFINITELY going to get accepted, OP has great chances coming from an IVY and all...

Out of curiousity... which ivy are you from? you should be really strong in standardize testing right? i mean... cmon... that's how you got in to an ivy wasn't it?

I used my college Biology Textbook (Raven et.al). I don't think it's neccessary, unless you never learned a topic during your biology course. I used it mostly to review physiology and anatomy since my biology class did not cover it. I only got one anatomy question and it was on bones. Only 1!! I spent so much time reviewing all the systems. I think the second time round, I am going to get cliff's AP bio and stick with that. I had schaum's bio outline, but I found it difficult to read and had a little too much history that is not nessary.

For chem, the exam is a lot easier. Orgo was easier, but not closer in the level of difficulty. I would say the destroyer is good for orgo and for chem if you feel weak in the subject. Keep in mind the destroyer Chem is a lot harder, so don't let it freak you out!!!

Good luck! :luck:

Thanks! Pick up the AP bio book for sure - it is a good review source. I know that you did not get that much on anatomy or plants, but you have to realize that you might have a test that has many questions on those topics, so prepare well. As I mentioned, it is not really that great of a standardized test. I feel prepared for ochem - got all 30 right on the Ada sample test and got lost right on the destroyer. I am going to prep for ochem this week. I hope that I get lucky and get an easier test than you got. I hope that you get in this cycle!

wow... that's exactly the test version that i got. i believe it is the hardest test version out there. i was doing 20aa 20ts in practice tests and got 18aa and 19ts. hopefully no one else is as unlucky as me. 🙁 i gave up all hope for getting in this cycle

you coming from an ivy holds more weight than youre giving it credit.

if you are really worried about your gpa, take a year or ugrad science courses at your state school witih straight A's and a full 16 hour courseload as you wait for next cycle.
