I took Bio I at a community college many years ago and recieved a C. I also recently took a physiology course and neglected to memorize a diagram which was presented on the final, subseuently leaving me with a C as well. I'm wondering whether I should re-take these two classes or take a different physiology course and focus on the MCAT. Bio I I took at CC was counted as 5 units there and is counted as 4 on quarter system, so I'm not entirely sure it would even be replaced. If it's not replaced, then what's the point. Anyone else know whether they would replace this? I'd rather not take that physiology course again either, as it's known for being extremely difficult but on the other hand, it may look bad to have a C and a W in a physiology course without proving that I can handle this material.

So should I sign up to re-take this physiology course again or move onto a different physiology course?

Re-taking it would probably be beneficial for the mcat. Phys is a good subject for it. What does the rest of your ap look like?

Pretty crappy right now. I made another post in the allopathic forum regarding what are my chances for DO/MD school. I remember you responding to my post there. I also flunked engineering calculus twice, recieved an F in political science once, and recieved a C in mechanics, and a C in the last general chemistry. Sigh..I also have 7 Ws. That's the worst of it. The rest are As and Bs. After seeing it all typed it makes me feel a little discouraged, but If I ace the remainder of my classes I think I can walk away with overall of about 3.5 /3.6 gpa, as I"m staying at University an extra year for these purposes. Luckily I won't have to work until next summer, so I figure I have nothing but time for studying and with a lot of work, it's all possible.

If you finish strong, and your GPA is 3.5-ish, then I think you give yourself a chance. You'll have some explaining to do on some of those grades, but ultimately, I think you'll have the numbers to get you in somewhere. Obviously, MCAT will need to be strong. Not necessarily 35+ or anything, but you'll need to show them that you can get your **** together when it counts. I don't have an exact number for you, so just do your best. Take a prep course.

DO may be your best bet. Your situation is probably a little unusual. If you can re-take some stuff you did poorly on, that can help you with DO schools.

Considering the fact that biology I was originally taken as 5 units at a CC and at my current university is considered 4 units, will this course be replaced when I apply to DO schools? If it's not replaced, I'd rather not go back and repeat this course. Do you think it would suffice to simply re-take physiology and take additional biology courses, as the thought of going back to the first biology class after taking so many upper division kind of annoys me.

Someone said they asked AACOMAS and they said the course needs to be greater than or equal credit hours in order to replace a previous grade. You might want to verify. Can you not retake the course somewhere else for 5 units? That's your best bet. If it's at all possible, DO IT.

Those two Fs in engineering calculus are killing me. I did take a different calculus course and recieved Bs, but that calculus was less units, so I know those Fs won't be replaced. I don't think I can do well in engineering calculus now either, so I don't want to re-take it. Do you think these grades will prevent me from getting into a D.O . school??

When I look at my gpa during this period, only one F is being counted in my gpa at C.C. right now, which leaves me at a 3.3. I am petititioning to have the 2nd F removed and if granted, my CC gpa will be 3.4.

If you get an F or two in non-pre reqs, but have a good GPA, it shouldn't absolutely keep you from getting in. It would, however, be to your benefit to remediate. If you're sure you won't do any better, though, it's better to not try again and fail. 👍

for DO schools I would suggest re-taking classes you did bad in, if possible.. and if you can do better. If not, don't do it. basically what everybody else said..

does orr still teach mamm phys?

i have a hunch you're pretty. do yourself a favore- meet him.

(this is the dude who gets lost and DCA whenever it suits him)

At my school, French and armour teach mamm. phys I. I'll probably stick w/ French since I already have so many of her exams.

classically mamm. phys. is a hard class.

it was when i took it.

but i really mean it when i say that no other class help me more on the mcat. and i beat the **** out of the mcat.

this is subject matter you need to know.

so retake and ace.

and! do something else to make yourself interesting to the adcom.

(ps. this is legit advice. really)
