I'm in between applying to SMPs and Post-bacs. My scenario after graduating last December: 3.2 GPA, tons of work and research experience and a need to retake Organic II (recieved a D).

This has me wondering if it's wise to appy to SMPs or Post-bacs. Am I correct in thinking it would be a waste of time applying to SMPs as I would need to re-take Organic II anyway before Med School applications?

No offense, but you could ask that regarding nearly anything. My question surrounds the notion that I'd do well in either.

some schools let you substitute biochemistry for organic chemistry ii, if you've taken biochem. check the online msar which costs $15 to access. having said that, it is probably a good idea to retake organic chemistry ii if you have figured out why it went badly last time and you can get a B+ or better the second time around. in that sense, yes, i would take organic chemistry II before going to an SMP. you can maybe take organic chem during the summer before starting the SMP. or you can work and try to pay off some credit card bills etc. before starting the SMP.

Really? I've never heard of that. If that's the case I got a B+ in Biochemistry.
