I am currently a 30-year-old post-bac premed student looking to boost my overall GPA. Since DO schools allow for grade-replacement/forgiveness for retaken courses, I'm wondering how re-taking a few non-science courses will be viewed by admissions officers. For example, if I'm trying to show my strength and focus as a pre-medical student, will it seem odd to ADCOMS to see me take Intro to Italian and Intro to East Asian Religions the summer before application? Retaking these classes will boost my GPA significantly if I earn As, but I'm worried doing so will suggest more of a focus on numbers than actually spending valuable time learning material needed to succeed in medical school. If I were an ADCOM, I'd prefer to see a focused student with an upward trend than someone simply jumping through hoops to increase a GPA. That said, I'm rebuilding a 3.1 cumGPA, so I need to do something!

Thank you for any advice you might have...

It's a bit of a pickle. I could stand to re-take ECON as well. I feel like you could justify PSYC pretty easily since it's soon going to be a required prereq for the MCAT and is already a prereq at several med schools. Maybe you're even considering psychiatry...

Anyone know how retaking ECON might look to an adcom?

Yep, they won't care. Take over as many classes as your financial situation will allow, especially if they are lower than a C. The biggest thing is to get an A!! 🙂 No worries, take some courses over, getter' dun!
