Some secondaries were weak so I'll work on them; but a few of the ones I wrote I felt were to the best of my abilities. What's the consensus on reusing secondaries to reapply a year later?

Generally you should change them somewhat. It doesn't have to be an overhaul though.

Did your overall application improve since last year? If not, and you submit the same secondaries, it's basically submitting the same app. If it didn't work the first time, it might not work the second time.....

Exactly. I don't know what would possess people to reuse the same things on their application if it didn't get them a good outcome the first time. Frankly that realization alone, I would hope, should be enough to put in the additional time and effort to redo the secondaries.

Well, I'm sure everyone's ECs are constantly improving with time. I would have more research, clinical volunteering, shadowing, travels.

So if your extracurriculars are improving with time, I think it would behoove you to make changes to your essays, even if they're small. You might not need to re-haul them completely, but you should be open to tinkering the secondaries with any new or interesting experiences from this upcoming year.
