I am so F*!*/^%(*^%(king pissed right now!!!! Just got off the phone with Nancy T, the AMCAS director. I had called her twice and sent a letter to Jordan Cohen describing my situation. 6/21 submission, no processing, no verification, no nothing. Transcripts were received before the end of June. I also sent 4 extra copies of each transcript since submission. They have been telling me since the first week of July that all my transcripts are there.

CHECK THIS OUT!!!!! She said that although the computer says my transcripts are there, they have misfiled them!!!!! So, basically, they have not been able to verify my application b/c they cannot find my transcripts!!! To rectify the situation they have called the schools to get a fax copy of the transcripts to verify them. According to her, 5000 applications have been verified. How screwed am I?!?!?! I told her that some schools like Stanford were only using verified applications and were not accepted their AMCAS. She repeatedly apologized to me and said, it was a total F*(&(* UP on their part. I asked "is this unique to me?" she said she hoped so, but was sure there were other people in the situation.

TO ALL YOU WHO HAVE BEEN WAITING PATIENTLY, DO NOT WAIT ANYMORE. LIKE I SAID ON A PREVIOUS POST, NOW IS THE TIME TO ACT!!! If you have not been verified and you submitted early, there is something wrong with your documentation. THE WHOLE TIME I THOUGHT I WAS WAITING PATIENTLY, NOW I FOUND OUT I JUST GOT BENT OVER AND SERVED UP.

Thanks for the info. I am in the exact same situation...submitted amcas app on 6/25 and all transcripts have been in their posession since that time. I too have had nothing done to my app other than the addition of my MCAT scores. The only thing I'll say is that five thousand apps being verified already is not really that many. Some forty thousand plus people will be applying this year so that amount is just a drop in the bucket.

Don't mean to be nit-picky, but I think that that number is actually around 35,000. Regardless, your point stands.

I'm not usually confrontational but is there any way that we can file some sort of class-action suit against AMCAS? This kinda comes out of frustration at what AMCAS has done to my application. (see post in "AMCAS HAS SCREWED UP AGAIN")

I'm no legal eagle by any means, so I have no idea how that would work, but I'm interested. I have no idea how, or why they verified things in the way that they did. You'd think that they would have done it in order of receptance, but obviously, they haven't. (I submitted on June 26th and still haven't been verified yet) I'm not a vengeful person, but there needs to be accountability, especially if you're getting paid almost $1000 to do what essentially would take an 8th grader 10 minutes to do.

just a thought,

Okay, I was trying to be patient, but I'm going to break down and call them.

So, one more time, what is the phone number for AMCAS?

mdhopeful, how did you get in touch with the director of AMCAS? it is pointless calling the specialists because in the end all I'll get is a big fat phone bill and a "Your application will be processed in 6-8 weeks."

mdhopeful-you are not alone, they did the same thing to me, lost my transcript. I waited 2 months before acting. I also submitted the 21st. Maybe there is a connection?

moo, i called the AAMC main number and said "I would like to speak to someone at the supervisory level at AMCAS, not a call specialist." They connected me to her and we talked. At first she kind of tried to hurry me along, then I simply said, hold on, I believe my situation is unique, would you please do me the courtesy of having someone look into my file? And then I gave her my info. I called back a week later and left her a message. She called me back today and told me the story. Her name is Nancy Tillingham or Tillinsomething.

chunkee check out my reply on letter to the amcas president (like on pg 2).... I talked about my conversation with a lawyer about getting a refund back.

Submitted and certified June 27 and I have no changes (x's, etc.) to my app. I'm glad that you started this thread mdhopeful. I was beginning to think everybody has been verified and transmitted except me.

I spoke with a "specialist" and she gave me the "2 week" speech. She told me that nothing was missing. In fact, AAMCAS recieved my transcripts in early June. It has been a week since my conversation with her and still no changes. I have a coworker in my lab who submitted in mid July and was verified two weeks ago. This is so frustrating! It is almost like we are being penalized for submitting our apps early. The excuse given by the specialist was that there was a computer glitch which caused some applications to be verified out of order. She then assured me that this problem was fixed. Yeah right ?!$%&.......... 😡 😡 😡 😡 😡 😡

In case you missed my previous post on this topic...
Just to let you all know how unfair the system seems to be I was informed by a AMCAS "specialist" that all applications submitted after August 10th will not be verified at this time. Instead, printed versions will be sent directly to schools and will be verified in the fall at some point. However, all other applications submitted before that date will have to wait on verification. That means that all of those who are submitting later will have an advantage over all of those earlier apps still waiting to be "verified". I expressed to the woman how unfair this system was and her reply was " I totally agree, but I am not in charge."

Wow...AMCAS strikes again.

Update to all - Found out that the reason they called me was not because I called the director of AMCAS, but because I had written a letter to Jordan Cohen, the president of the AAMC, describing my situation. He then put pressure on AMCAS to research my situation, call me back, and start to get the verification process rolling. My advice is to draft a letter to Cohen stating your experience and what the problem is.

This thread almost pushed me over the edge...I'm beginning to think that by the time I actually get an interview invite, this entire AMCAS process will have driven me absolutely insane! I'll be a sobbing drooling mess staring hopefully into my computer monitor waiting for the "Date Processed" to magically appear...Oh well, I guess I need to give my pals at AMCAS a call so that they can lie to me again 😛

I am confused... if the applications sent later (was it after August 10th?) are not being verified - then of what use are they to the schools? Are we going to have to have more copies of transcripts sent to them directly? And if they are accepting these unverified applications, then why are the vast majority of them not accepting paper applications from us at this time (I mean, print-outs of the AMCAS apps.)? What is the difference between that an an unverified application from AMCAS directly? I know some schools are accepting paper apps, but not any of the ones I am applying to. 🙁

My take on it is that schools dont consider paper copies to be sent by the applicant to be the same unverified paper apps sent by AMCAS because it is possible to edit the AMCAS printout using a standard text editor, IE, or Netscape.

As far as I can tell though, in every other respect an unverified app sent by AMCAS is the same as a paper copy sent by the applicant.

I think they just don't want to be swamped with paper. One of the newspaper stories on the AMCAS debacle quoted an admissions director on the fact that they're getting double the paperwork because of both applicants and AMCAS sending paper copies.

MDHOPEFUL exactly where did you send your letter? I'm also writing one. I'm so upset right now! it has been over two months and i still have nothing on my app. i called a while ago and they said it would be processed 8/24! each time i call its a diff. story. i just hope i get the same response that you did.

I sent it to the main AAMC address that is on their website, and I addressed it to Jordan Cohen, MD, President of AAMC. If you can't find the address, post another note and I will look for it.

MD--i got the address...thanks!

I don't know if this will help or not, but I submitted my application 7/4 and there are red X's over the schools/transcripts/coursework section. I don't know if that's the same thing as having a processed application, but if it is, maybe that means a lot of people who submitted back in early july will have their applications processed soon?

Still, I'm confused, I keep getting emails from them saying they don't have my payment, which the people on the accounting dept say they have! Has anyone else had this happen?

Elle,
The red X's mean they're in the process of processing your app. Congrats! (pretty sad that we have to congratulate people on getting processed 🙄 )

I would ignore the repeated e-mails, since they're processing you, which they wouldn't do if they didn't have your money. Some people are getting repeated e-mails about being verified. Sound like they have bugs in their e-mail program as well as their app!

Hey guys/gals. Check this out. My application got verified, and some changes were made to my GPA (nothing significant, like .02) or something. Anyways, I got an email saying that the verification was complete, but since changes were made, I had to recertify and resubmit. When I went to double check my application, my graduate schools institution, gpa, and coursework were all missing. I called them and they said it was no longer in their database. Seems like someone is out to get me or something. Now they have to research the whole thing and thus another delay. The nightmare gets worse.

mdhopeful, that's awful! did they find your coursework yet? I have this mental image of little engineers digging around in an underground tunnel...I hope they find all of your application soon. 🙂
Since I've gotten like six emails saying my payment wasn't processed, I finally called AMCAS and they said to just ignore those messages. This could apply to other people too: if they had to manually take your application off hold (like for me, they didn't have a record of my credit card payment) then they have no way of letting the computer system know your payment was received. They are working on it but until then the auto-generated emails will keep coming...
The guy also said to not resubmit my application even though I got an email saying my GPA was wrong. I know it's the correct GPA, so I guess that's okay. Hope this helps someone out. 😎

thank god my GPA was exactly the same.....

I feel sorry for you guys

Just got off the call with the AMCAS lady. She gave me a reason why I'm still not verified (I submitted on 7/3). AMCAS lost one of my transcipts, so I had to resend it in late July. She said they received the transcript on 8/6, and my application was treated as if it's submitted on 8/6 and will take "6-8 weeks" (their classic answer!) before it will be verified. So those who submitted early, and had their transcripts lost by AMCAS, yes...we're being unjustly penalized for it 🙁 🙁 🙁

Just wanna add another thing: I called AMCAS last week, and a guy "specialist" told me "your application is in the process of being verified, and should be sent out by the end of the week....". Even though he sounded like he was reading strictly from a script, he kept me happy for a while...until I called again today. Sigh...different "specialists" are telling me different things. But I guess the lady this time is more credible. 🙁

If you have a red X on that section of your application, does it mean that they have your transcripts?

I wrote to AMCAS about a month ago, and finally got a reply yesterday. Basically it said that my application was active, but unfortunately they do not know when it will be processed. Well, at least they were honest this time. They've had my transcripts for months, so who knows what the hold up is...

HOLY CHIT!! 35,000 APPS AT A GRAND + APIECE?
I CAN'T EVEN COUNT THAT HIGH. NO WONDER THE PREZ WENT ON VACATION. SURE SOUNDS LIKE DEEP POCKETS TO ME!
