Hi,

I'm taking my OAT this coming Thursday and I'm a little anxious about the reading comprehension section. I'm a pretty slow reader. It takes me around 10 minutes to read and close to 10 minutes to answer the 13-14 questions. I've been trying the Kaplan approach but I still have a hard time looking for things. It could be that I'm just taking down words that aren't as important as I think.

For all of you who took Kaplan, is the level of difficulty of the real exam the same as the practice Kaplan provides for reading comprehension?

For everyone, are there any suggestions you could give me on how to tackle this passages?

Oh yeah. One last time, are constants given on the OAT?

Thanks,
Catherine

I skipped reading the passage and went right for the questions. I numbered my paper, and wrote down in afew words what the question was asking. After reading all the questions for a passage, I went back and read the passage, keeping in mind the questions I had written down. When I came up on something that I remembered was asked about, I looked through my paper to see which question it was, flipped to that question, and figured out the answer. It worked out pretty well, except for that I ended u running out of time because it took longer to go from question to question on the real test than the computer program I was using to practice.

the only constants give are acceleration due to g 10 m/s/s and G 6.67 X 10^(i dont remember what the exponent is) If you can set up the correct equations, then you can generally deduct the correct answer from the choices given.

i recently took the oat on 9/4. i got a 370 on the rc section. i scanned each passage looking for the general message/tone of the passage. then i went to the questions and looked for answers. the key is just to relax and not get flustered. its harder to scan when you're stressed.

i wouldn't worry about the physics section. i got a 380 and was scoring in 200s in the kaplan practice. its really theoretical with lots of simple motion problems.

good luck!

I do not like to make you feel stress about the reading section but in my case I got high scores on all sections except the reading I hate this section and there was a huge gap between my scores on science and on the reading section, the opposite happened with me I scored 300 on the practice reading section and I did very bad on the actual exam, but anyway I wish you all luck.

It's okay. I already took my test on Thursday and I did okay on RC. Not the greatest but good enough to apply to SCCO. I scored over 360 on all the sections except RC.

Good luck to you if you decide to retake.
