Wait, the passages have a topic? 😕
Search and destroy 🙄 😴
The RC section of the DAT is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get. This is what makes it tricky. My scores on the practice tests would fluctuate depending on what the passage is about.
Mine was super easy! I took it on Saturday. My first topic just happened to be on a subject I had been discussing with my mom the night before. The other two were something I was a liytle bit familiar with. All three passages were very readable and not too dense.
I spent my last five minutes trying to decide on the wording differences in two questions. I must have guessed wrong because I got a 27.

What was your reading strategy?
You'll never know. My three topics were genetic engineering, urbanization, and fiber optics.

Those were my three as well 😱
When did you take the test?
What was your reading strategy?
Umm...read? I don't know, I didn't practice at all. I took one practice RC a few weeks before just to know what the format was. During the test I jotted a few notes down, which I kept organized by writing the paragraph numbers down. That way I could refer back to a paragraph if I needed more info than my short note. I think search and destroy is a terrible idea, so I wasn't willing to develop a 'strategy' that used it. However, I have always been a very strong reader and good at standardized tests (760 on the SAT reading section and 790 on the literature SAT II) so don't follow my lead if that's not your background.
