So, I took the two datbootcamp reading tests and i've been making 15's on both. I took the crackthedat reading and made a 17… worried. very worried.

Are you doing search and destroy, or reading the passage first and then answering questions?

You need to practice different methods to see what works best for you. I found that reading the passage first and then answering worked best for me. Find what works and stick with it.

The worst part is, my reading score is the highest right now 🙁 I was expecting that to be the lowest and everything else to be a lot better. Keep practicing. Do a passage a day! I heard that helped a lot of people from last year.

Try reading the different strategies in the Reading Comprehension section and see which one makes you feel most comfortable. I personally didn't like search and destroy (aka just going straight to the questions), I always felt rushed and stressed. What worked best for me was to just read the passage slowly to make sure I understood it and then answer the questions, your brain will be surprisingly good at remembering the details (or at least where the details are located in the passage). Keep practicing your reading, read different scientific articles everyday to understand them, and keep going at it. You'll start to see your score improve soon.

What worked for me was to try and reading the passages enthusiastically (like it's something I wanted to learn about). It's hard, but making sure you understand what is being said is very important. I would say spending more time and trying to do well on 2/3 passages is better than rushing through all 3.

This is the key part, if you find some interest, I think you'll remember it easier.

This is speaking from my experience... I took the DAT twice. The first time I did purely search and destroy. I got a 19. The second time I tried alot harder to read the passages and get absorbed in them. After reading them I would go back and answer the questions. I ended up with a 19 on the second time. It's all about what makes you confident and secure. I recommend just trying different tactics. Some people like to read a paragraph and write down key words. There are multiple strategies. Like previous posts have stated, its all about what makes you comfortable. There is no golden recommendation. Best of luck to you. Keep practicing, you can only improve from here!

I scored around a 18 in crack dat pat, and bootcamp was like a 16. Took the DAT and score a 14 on reading. As yo can see, the DAT is much much much harder in reading passages than crack dat pat and bootcamp. If you can't score a 20+ on these practice exams, then expect a 17 or lower on the reading comp.

Just kidding, I made a 20. It just takes practice.

scared the Shyt out of me @BabyShades whats wrong with you.. lol how many did you take and what was your strategy

I took about 2-3 Crack DAT reading, 1 bootcamp, and 3 QVAULT reading. My QVAULT reading was 20-22. I think the DAT is similar to QVAULT reading, except that QVAULT is really long.

As for my DAT, I had one really interesting passage. For that passage, I read about 3-4 paragraphs and look at the first 6 questions, and then keep repeating. I answer any questions that I come across, and skip the ones I do not know. For the ones that I skipped, I go back and look for it in the paragraphs.

The second passage was hard and dense, I search and destroy that whole passage. I guess I got freaked out when I shouldn't be.

The third passage I did exact same thing as the first passage.

I took the kaplan course and my highet reading score was an 18. Took the real thing and got a 21. How? I think I got lucky with the passages because I actually found them to be interesting and I was comfortable with the topics. Also helped the questions were very straight foward. So I would say luck plays a little in the CR section.

English is my second language and reading was the hardest section among all. What I did was.. I tried to do LOTS of practice exams. DATQvault, Top score, Crack DAT Reading etc. My practice scores ranged from 14-22 and end up getting 18 on my actual exam.

Search and Destroy may work but not always. It depends on the kind of questions your test version carries.

For example, there could be questions where they give you two statements and have to figure out which ones are true/false.

For example:
A: I am a boy
B: I love to dance

1. A is true, B is false
2. A and B both are true
3. A is false B is true
4. A and B both are false

This kind of question was on my actual DAT and I freaked out bc I mainly practiced my RC with search and destroy method. So my advice to you is just practice a lot using different methods rather than sticking with just one method.

I will have to agree as well.
I know some passages are super boring as to give you a daydreaming experience, but you need to focus and try to find excitement out of it.

On my real test, out of 3 passages, 1 passage was really interesting, but it was laden with superflous information to remember. But because the passage was so engaging and interesting, I ended up answering a lot of questions easily or found the answers without much problem.

Practice makes perfect! (I shouldn't say this because I really didn't practice much)

lol

For reading section you just need to do one passage a day. You will get used to reading those passages and will comprehend them fast. As for sciences and math, leanr the material or get crash course first. Jumping into the practice exams will not increase your score.

You made my heart drop for a second
