Hi

I would be interested to hear people’s experience of their perio residency.

Was it worth it? How many implants have they placed? How many surgical procedures completed?

Which programs are recommended or highly regarded?

Lastly, what are their career and salary prospects?
TIA 🙂

Another question: how competitive is it? Is top 50% of class sufficient? Thanks in advance.

Based on old data from 2014, the acceptance rate for perio is about 1:11, or about a 9% chance. Perio is one of the higher chance residency’s out there, compared to OMFS 1:40, ortho 1:31, pedo 1:22, and endo 1:17. Prostho does edge out at 1:9.

I can’t tell you whether top 50% is good enough, but I can tell you it is one of the less competitive. Just do your best and hope your work pays off

Where is this data from? I’m guessing this means out of 40 people who apply to OMFS, only 1 ends up matching?

Thank you for this info. 1:11 still sounds very competitive to me. Does this number only take into account completed applications?

you prob applied to only the super competitive ones like san antonio and stipend paying ones. ive seen people in the bottom half getting in. perio in general is likely on par with GPR in terms of competitiveness.

nope, applied at my home program (Marquette). the year i applied it didnt seem like anyone posting got in

Why is endo lower than the rest?
