I've posted this in a few other forums, but haven't gotten that big of a response, so I apologize for any reapeats.
I'm an MS-III and had to pull out of my medicine rotation about 2 weeks in because of some anxiety / depression issues that don't come up that often. Frankly, I could have finished the rotation if I had 4 or 5 days to get myself together, but we get an incomplete after 2 missed days, so that was out of the question. We're allowed 16 weeks of vacation between years 3 & 4, so the time I'm missing now (6 weeks) is simply vacation time; thus, I'll still graduate on time.
My concern is how will this be addressed in the dean's letter and what effect will it have on getting my choice of residencies? Of course, this is a case by case situation but I was just curious as to how it was handled if anybody had to deal with anything similar.
For what it's worth, my numbers are pretty good (224 on step I) and the dean isn't the type of guy who would try to "stick it" to anybody. Anyway, just curious.
