Really only 500 word personal statement??

Columbia's application for their mph program says they want approximately 500 words. Does anyone know how strict that is??? I don't know how you could possibly answer all of the questions outlined in their "application tips" section in just 500 words. I can't even get mine below 1,000!! So does anyone know how important it is to get it around 500 words?? Thanks!!

haha, i submitted mine with nearly 1200 words. =) i don't know if that'll jeopardize my application, oh well.

i was able to bring mine to around 550...i hired a Kaplan admissions consultant to help me with all my essays and she was able to take my essay that was originally over a 1000 words to mid 500
