This semester has been horrible, coming from a 3.89 GPA I'm really worried that my grades will suffer this semester. I'm taking this Online Ethics course that is absolutely killing me. I've visited the professor and the only advice he's offered is study harder, and make up your own practice quizzes. I'm a very organized person and I take notes excessively, I use flashcards, practice quizzes and read the material a few times for every unit.

I just completed a midterm paper proposal last night and I received a 60%. The assignment was completely asinine, we had to evaluate a hypothetical situation where a woman was stranded due to a flood and she had a choice to steal from her neighbors because her children were starving. We had to incorporate the moral theories we learned in class into the essay. I thought I did well and had some valid points, However in the comments he basically told me I need to redo this and it seems like I'm not grasping anything from this course. This assignment is meant to be a precursor and outline for our Midterm Essay worth 400 points due in a week...

How can I grasp the concepts of this course? This is the first time I've taken an ethics course and cannot afford to get anything below a B. I've been receiving A's on the discussions and daily participation, but get B's, C's and D's on the Tests and quizzes. I currently have an 88% in the course but I feel like I'm seriously drowning and need some help, has anyone run into this before? Give me a genetics course and I have no problem....ethics I'm at a loss. The drop date has ended, so I need to push through somehow. Any advice?

Maybe you should just study harder and make your own practice quizzes?

I kid I kid. OP if you are trying your hardest, sometimes you just have to realize your limitations. Getting one low grade is fine.

Meet up with some people in the class and talk about the concepts that you've learned.

That, or start googling/youtubing the ethical theories you're learning about to get a better perspective.

OP you have a great GPA, one bad grade is not going to prevent you from getting into med school. I had a couple of rough courses (one was also an ethics course) but you live and you learn and more than anything you move on.

If you are required to take 120 credits for your degree and if this is a 3 credit class then the course contributes 2.5% of your GPA at graduation. If you were to earn a C (6 grade points) out of a possible 12 grade points for this class, your gpa at graduation would be 3.84 if your overall GPA remains at 3.89. In the larger scheme of things, you can afford to do poorly in this course without tanking your GPA over the long haul. If you are applying after 3 years, Your GPA would be 3.82 with a C in ethics and an average over 87 other credits of 3.89. Don't sweat the small stuff; this is small stuff.
